Why do my settings reset whenever I restart or shut off my phone?

Android Central Question

I think this has been going on since September. I have no idea why!

For months, I've been getting annoyed since this happened. Battery percentage disappears, brightness at max, ringtones, notification sounds, screen time-out reverts to 30 seconds, and the standard settings.

I've tried doing the one with the three phone icons but to no avail. Can anyone help?

hey! late reply again, but we did a factory reset last night, and the issues are now fixed. after doing so, some apps began to reinstall themselves, is there a chance that the data from those apps are still saved or not? also, some apps didn't reinstall even if we didn't check them off the list, is there a reason for that as well? and yes, I did it because I couldn't send the ss in the replies

Glad the reset helped! If you reinstall an app, then prior data might be restored if the app was backing up to your Google Drive. You can find out if the app was backing up by opening your Google Drive app, tapping Menu>Backups then tap the backup for your phone, then App Data, and see if the app in question is listed there. Keep in mind that not all data from an app might be backed up -- it might just be app settings.

I'm not sure why some apps wouldn't reinstall automatically. It could have to do with how old the app is -- perhaps it's outdated and no longer available on the Play Store. Or if you installed an app from somewhere else (like the Amazon Appstore), the Google Backup system wouldn't automatically reinstall those.

What options to you get on the Power menu?

Samsung devices can typically be forced to shut down by pressing and holding Power and Vol Down for about 30 seconds.

You could also just pull the battery (assuming you have the 1st generation Wide).
