Why do you hate Sense?

I'm not sure if this was a Sense issue or just a HTC issue, but my Evo used to mess up my exchange email and calendar. It would save the stuff in a renamed file that you couldn't get to and the start filling up again. My phone would run out of space every month and I'd have to hard reset it again to clear out the junk. Along with that was re-installing all my apps, re-arranging all my screens, and loosing all my data history for games like Angry Birds and others. It was too much.

Did this happen on any other Sense phones? I'm hesitant to buy another HTC because of this issue.

The look. Granted, I haven't used Sense since whatever shipped with the TBolt, but I really disliked black frames around every HTC app like contacts, messaging, etc. LauncherPro couldn't cover up everything like that. I managed to "fix" my problems by flashing CM7. I came from a G1 and Nexus One, so maybe I was just too used to AOSP. Bet heck, to each their own, no?

The reason i got an HTC was because of Sense. EVO 4G. Everyone said it was better than all the other skins at the time. I think this question mainly falls on the user. It's my phone and it works, well. My biggest complaint is the design of the actual phone. With the camera lense sticking out it gets scratched, which makes the camera useless. Yes i could buy a case, but then i would be in the same lines as all the iphone users that swear that apple has the best design and interface, but do the really. You take that great design and cover it with a case which makes the design pointless. the phone cost upto $500, it should not require a case. I have and still do enjoy my HTC phone, but i will probably switch to a phone that is less likely to get a scratched camera lense, samsung most likely, but you could also start a conversation about how people hate the samsung touch wis also. if you don't like the manufacturers skin then root it. those are the only type of people that should care, because they are comfortable with rooting it and know what they want. For me it is fine, nothing to carry on about. If you don't like Sense then root your phone. If you can't root your phone and you complain about it then you are a troll. Plain and simple.

I really don't dislike sense. I enjoyed it on my tbolt. My biggest problem with any skin is the slowdown of updates. Perhaps we're gonna see that change going forward, though. Time will tell.

I think it's over-developed. The animations are unnecessary and the lock screen can be a mess. They made a good step in trimming it back, but they need to trim it back even more.

Likes - graphical polish, innovative lock screens and widgets (more copied than ANY "skin") I know Phil is thinking how many times do I need to explain it is a framework:)
Dislikes - Dialer. I know there is a simple fix.. install a new one. I am a creature of habit. I am a huge fan of starring my most frequent contacts. The ability to get to my starred contacts in contacts or dialer quickly was my BIGGEST pet peeve. The last problem is similar, contact management. I don't blame Sense for slow downs having been on enough ROMS that can do it right.

The Dinc 2 is my first Android Smartphone and I haven't had any problems with (in fact, not even sure, except for the widgets and the launcher, what is Sense 2.1 vs. stock). Actually, my impression is that the huge amount of VZW unremovable bloatware is a bigger draw on the system than sense. And Phil, I think most people like to blame Sense for any number of ills without supporting their case. Finally, sometimes it can be things like animated wallpapers, transitions, one or two widgets (or more) that can be the drain/lag that some users of Sense get while others find the phone works quite well.

One thing that does suck is Twitter for HTC Sense. It eats up way too much battery and caused my Accounts & Sync settings page to force close repeatedly on this Rezound. I suppose that's a gripe with a particular app that comes with Sense -- still, it was a terrible experience.

Stock gingerbread was really very fast and smooth (I had a Nexus S 4G). Recently, I got a Galaxy Nexus and got my wife a Rezound because the specs seemed very impressive. I couldn't believe how much lag was present on that beast of a phone, and it was obviously due to sense. It has some nice features that add to the usability, but it has so much that is gaudy, ugly (IMO), and superfluous (3d animations). Features that build upon the OS are fine (ie. CM9), but sense tries to cover up Android in many ways and puts in its own design. I understand its better with 4.0 than in 3.5 (my only significant experience with it) but much of it still seems unnecessary and unattractive (again, IMO).

I do like sense and always have. I eventually would root all my phones and would try different roms without sense. They were great. I was using the vivid and after the sense 3.6 update I am very impressed with it again. I am looking forward to trying sense 4 and am happy to see the direction HTC is taking.

Sense is nothing but bloatware! Vanilla Core is a excellent replacement.

I actually LOVE sense. I have never had any issues with it. I actually have ICS and scense 3.6 on my HTC Sensation (rom of course) but I love it. I tried to use the "virgin" ICS for a week but i kept wanted some of the features of Sense. I am hoping a better ROM with some of the basics to be ready soon.. One of the main things is bluetooth and the 4.0 roms are there yet.

false. i was crystal clear.

Dude, Phil said your answer was bad....that means it WAS BAD. Sense may have had SOME of those issues but it's come a long way. You probably also think VW's are aircooled and have the trunk where the engine should be and vice versa...times have changed, Sense is a very nice overlay to what I'd call a somewhat under-polished UI.

Hate sense? That is way too strong of a word for me. My first exposure to sense was on an old WinMo phone they had. There are elements to Sense that I do not like. The calendar is one of them. If I'm using the month view widget, I want to be able to dynamically switch between that and the agenda view. As for the calendar its self, being able to edit entries that have passed would be a great feature. For example, you have a recurring appointment, why not be able to go into to the one that just passed and adjust the date to the next occurrence. Instead I have to do that through Google Calender via the web browser. Next up, 4 columns of icons Vs. 5 on the home screen. Come on, let me pack em in. The dialer is very slow when entering a number. I would compare the speed of dialing to using a rotary phone. The dock in the current iteration on my phone does suck. I like the changes that are coming with 3.6 / 4.0. Finally, the black heave border around every interface. Tin it up and let me change the colors or transparency. Other than that I have not had one complaint with Sense on my Rezound.

For a company that promotes customizing the experience for "you." sense is incredibly restricting.

Sense: battery draining/CPU eating flashy graphics and lots of unwanted background applications
