Why does my moms contact number show her email address?

Responding to my Mom's number sends it to her email.

So I once tested texting my Mom's email with the phone service's email for phone numbers and ever since then when my Mom texts me it shows that email instead of her number. It won't let me respond unless I create a new message and type in her actual number every time. I've tried disconnecting my contacts from Facebook and Google, and completely deleting anything that was left of her in my contacts/messages and I still can't fix this issue. I have a Galaxy S3 and using the default messaging application.

it sounds like maybe the Samsung Contacts/People app has saved your mom's phone-email address as the default text address. this is the nuclear option and a PIA but -

1. make sure all data is backed up.
2. do a hard reset of phone back to factory fresh state.
3. go into your Google contacts, FB contacts, and all other contacts and delete "Mom".
4. manually resync and reinstall all apps to the fresh phone.
5. manually add back "Mom" contact.

I'm not sure a factory reset is needed.
First off, make sure you input all contacts as Google, not Phone.

1. In CONTACTS, MENU, export them to a file.
2. Email that file to yourself, or put it on a flash drive, or whatever it takes to make it available.
3. Open a browser on your PC and go to your Gmail account.
4. Go to CONTACTS.
5. MORE dropdown.
6. Import that file.
7. MORE dropdown, then MERGE duplicates.
8. Edit whatever you need to.
9. Report back here with the results.
