Why does my Samsung Galaxy S6 have camera focus struggle and a buzzing/hissing noise?

I just reset my camera settings (options > very last option). It's no longer doing it...I'll keep you posted if it returns.

Edit: when I shake my phone gently, the camera makes a subtle noise like something is rattling around inside.

Mine rattles too but I think that is the image stabilization.

Mine is doing exactly the same thing - buzzing sound when opening up the camera/snapchat apps.

Something is also rattling when I shake the phone. The buzzing seems to become worse after shaking the phone too, so maybe that can be related to a hardware problem? :-\

I had an S6 that did this and over time it became less random and more frequent. I was well past the 14 days, so Verizon sent me a refurbished under the Samsung 1 year warranty. The refurbished has been mostly great, but it has done this same problem twice. If it ever picks up in frequency I will be doing this again.

I have also noticed recently that if I shake the phone a little, something in the camera area makes a "knocking" noise, almost like a loose button would. I know it's not a button though, because I can hold all the buttons with fingers and when I shake the phone it still makes the noise. Also the noise is loudest right at the camera, not anywhere else on the phone. Anyone else experience this?

I really really hope this is a software problem and not hardware related.

Anyone running 5.1 with this? Curious as I'm still on 5.0.2 and hoping it was a fix in 5.1.

It's getting worse with time. Between this and the awful WiFi Standby battery drain, I may see if Verizon will let me exchange it for a new unit

Hello chezm. I'm on 5.1 and i still notice this issue in the phone. It started all of a sudden without any drops whatsoever.!

It made a hissing sound going up in pitch when I was exiting out of facebook messenger. Thankfully it has only happened twice in the whole month so far that I have had the phone

Thankfully no. It only happened for me twice and I never heard it again. It randomly appeared and disappeared on its own. So weird

Yeah this started happening to me after the 5.1.1 update. I was on vacation and it was pretty hot out. Whenever I would take a picture it would buzz and look wavy on the screen. It sometimes last a few seconds sometimes longer. Sucks that this many people are having this problem. Means Samsung may have messed up.

Interesting that you mention it was hot out. Last time this happened to me it was really hot outside. Although the S6 I had before this that also had this problem did it randomly, and often. Maybe the problem started on a really hot day though.

Actually this happens irrespective of the ambient conditions. This happens when you start the camera with the lens facing down towards ground. Just tilt the phone with the screen facing towards the ground first, then turn it to the opposite side with the screen facing upwards, Now open the camera app and check whether the hissing starts. Also, how frequently does your new device does this?

I'm wondering the same. I'm not convinced it's a hardware issue because this started all of a sudden without any drops of the phone. Also, once the lens gets the focus it's working perfectly without any issues whatsoever. If it's starting without any impact it should go away without an impact I hope! I've tried it all! Resetting the phone, disabling shealth, clearing cache and Resetting app preferences etc etc. Still it happens!

Combine this with the fact that the noise / shaky focus is from something physically vibrating, I think this is a hardware issue. Even if you take out the heat factor, I think something physical is failing after continued use, that's why the problem doesn't exist for some time then all of sudden does. Just my opinions.

Same here. It started on vacation shooting a lot of pictures in high heat. Also have the rattling sound so definitely hardware I would say. Hope my provider is aware of the problem so I have little discussion.

Guys.., rattling sound is common and it's not an issue. It's the OIS motor that makes the noise. Open the camera focus on something and try shaking...the noise will be gone then. But the buzzing/vibration shouldn't happen. Called up samsung and they said they will replace the camera module. Thinking of getting it repaired! What do you guys think? I'm worried about scratches on metal sides while repairs!

And after saying my device hadn't made the weird noise in a while it just did. Way for me to jinx it...
