Why does my Samsung Galaxy S6 have camera focus struggle and a buzzing/hissing noise?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 Camera Focus Struggle and Buzzing/Hissing noise

Yes this happens! Everytime i think phew its gone, but there it'll be right to kick me across my face  Thinking of getting the camera replaced but still having second thoughts!

I'm careful with my phone and don't leave it in the sun/heat...always in sahdr if outside with me. I initially thought heating generated it but disregarded the thought after. I also am sure the rattling is common as mentioned, if anything I would believe it's more related to a dirty lens but mine is super clean I always check it.

I can get around this...mostly. I mean the whole double tap to launch camera for instant shots is out the window as it happens around 50% of the time...worse if I'm aiming the phone downwards. As soon as I move the camera to autofocus, it corrects itself around 85% of the time.

Since we are a smaller percentage of users I don't really know what to think...it seems with time many people are developing the problem like we did. I'm a launch device, anyone a newer owner?

We are not alone did a search and found tons of users with the same problem ...lets hope its software related and a fix on the way. Too bad there's no way of sending diagnostics to Samsung.

Same here! I'm super cautious when it comes to my phones and the S6 is definitely not an exeption and i have a shockproof case on since the very first day and never used it in harsh conditions. I'm sure this cannot be solved with a simple software update. I think we will have to get it repaired by replacing the camera module. And yes, like chezm has said, the issue is worse when u start the camera while facing downwards! If it works fine facing down, just point it upwards or move it a bit towards the top and open the camera facing down again. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. There it is the stupid buzzing/hissing noise with focus struggle. ><:'(

I've never left my phone in the heat / sun, but I have used it in 85-90+ degree heat, which is where it all seemed to begin with my current S6.

Overall there is so much I love about the S6, but it has just enough bugs (more than my S4) that I am seriously thinking about pushing for an exchange to a different phone. I'm on my 3rd S6 as it is, soon to be fourth if I don't "live with this camera issue".

Like I posted above, have the same issue. I take good care of my phone, didn't leave it in the sun but it was almost 40 degrees C (100+). It's also a first launch edition, have it since May and it started in July.

Will have to replace the camera, hope I'll still have great picture quality and they don't mess anything up.

How would you get a different phone on an Exchange? I got mine at launch and its passed the 14 trial run...if I had an option as well I might take it up. Not because I don't love the S6, which I do...but it would be nice to have an option.

Count me as another who sees outside heat as a trigger for this problem. At home in Ohio this has never happened. But while on vacation a few weeks ago in Utah and Arizona, it happened several times. Every time the temperature was in the upper 90s to almost 110.

Not sure to be honest. Probably not even possible. I still live in a fantasy world where I think businesses do things that are best for the customer and believe in customer satisfaction. :) I guess I'd hope they'd understand that I will be on my fourth S6 and a change to a different phone might actually be a win-win for everyone involved. Pipe dream, I know.

Well I had this problem about 5+ times yesterday evening alone. It was warm out, but I wouldn't say HOT, maybe 85 degrees. I just opened the camera app, in my work office, about 20 times, and it happened about 5 times, although for a much shorter duration. So I think it's safe to say in my case that the problem is getting worse, as it did on my last phone. Last time I spoke with Verizon on the phone and they ultimately sent me a refurbished model under Samsungs 1 year warranty. I think this time I'll make a trip to a Verizon store and see what my options are.

Update: Went into a Verizon store today. Was able to show them the problem in action. They said all they could do for now is another warranty claim and send me another refurbished S6, which I am doing. He did say that if it happened again, this would be the 3rd S6 for me with the same problem and they'd probably be able to move me into a different kind of phone. We'll see. Hopefully my 4th S6 is a keeper though!

Ok I can't really complain I'm still on my first initial launch S6...hopefully it works out for you, let us know if this one has a similar problem. I am not looking forward to sending mine in for repair to Samsung as I could potentially end up with a worse refurbished one...I wish my ISP would give me a replacement directly from them but they won't.

Yeah if you go through Samsung, they take your phone and repair it, then send it back to you. The main problem I have with that is I don't have a phone while it's in shipping, repaired, then shipping again. At least through Verizon, they send the refurbished, then once I have it I can return the defective one. So I'm not without a phone for a week or so. Fact is, in my line of work, I can't be without my phone. I really do love my S6 outside of this and a couple other minor things, so I hope this next one has no issues. I'd rather not change to another type of phone.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 Camera Focus Struggle and Buzzing/Hissing noise

Hey guys..a quick update! I got the phone back after repair from Samsung. And I must say, a very well done work. I can't even see any sort of niggles or marks to know that the phone has been repaired. The camera module has been swapped in for a new one. It's definitely a hardware issue and try to replace your phones or get them repaired if u have time. It's better if u can get it repaired since u know for a fact that the camera is the only issue you had whereas you can't be so sure with a refurb. Just my opinion though..cheers!! :)

Did you factory reset the device before sending it in? Did you deal with Samsung directly or through your carrier?

Good to know. Thanks. Let us know if this camera module starts acting up on you at any point.

Hey mate, yes i did factory reset the phone, but that was on my own since i did not want them to acces my stuff. But, in general they dont ask you to do it forcefully since data won't be lost in this repair. They still ask you do backup if you have important files just in case ;). And ya, i dealt directly with samsung since i was not interested to get a refurb. My display was flawless without any tints which is so difficult to get. So went the sammy way!.

Yes exactly, thats what I'm so curious about and noticing so carefully, i've tried all the usual stuff i do to replicate the issue and so far no issues. The camera quality has improved a bit but don't know why. I had the Sony sensor earlier but now i can't even check :P

The one main thing I dislike about Android, in comparison to iPhone, is Google doesn't offer a standard method of backups (which include all data backup, including games). I did so many factory resets at the beginning since launch with this phone and after finally settling down and being on it for 2 months...another factory reset is not a fun choice. However, the longer I wait the harder it will be...Google, come on offer a good alternative!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely consider getting this repaired as its getting slowly worse over time.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S6 Camera Focus Struggle and Buzzing/Hissing noise

Mine did this as well.

I called Samsung tech support to get the info to send it in for repair.

They had me reset the camera app to default settings and it went away immediately.

Fortunate for you, I've done that a ton of times and it hasn't helped
