Why does the music app not respond to "play" or "pause" on Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

I have had my Note 3 for about 2 years or so. For some reason the music app does not respond to the voice commands "play" or "pause" but it does respond to the commands "next" and "previous". It had never done this since I have had it. I have tried contacting Samsung technical support but they were pretty useless.

I really don't think that this issue is just my phone, I believe it is all Note 3s and maybe all Samsungs.

Can anyone throw some light on this issue please?

For starters, not all devices, media players, or android versions support this, so you might be right about Samsung devices lacking the feature. How did you do this before? Are you trying to do this with headphones or earbuds? If so, they would need a mic as android devices switch mic interface from the device mic to the output mic on audio hardware once it is connected.

Mr Mendelli

Thank you for your interest in my question.

I could never do it before. I am not using earbuds or speakers. When the music is playing I can just say to the phone "next" or "previous" and it will do as I say. But if I say "play" or "pause" it doesn't respond. All 4 of these commands are the correct ones for the app because a banner often scrolls across the screen reminding me of them.

Take a look at the permissions for the app. Open settings and navigate to:

Application manager> (Playback app)> Permissions

Now make sure the app has access to the mic. Maybe the permission isn't enabled for some reason.

Mr Mendell

I checked the Permissions as you suggested and everything is fine. And as I said, the Music App responds to the voice commands of "Next" and Previous".

I should tell you that when I tried to sort this issue out before I went to a local shop and tried the Music App on 2 different Samsung Galaxy phones (neither was a Galaxy Note) and both of them would not respond to the voice commands of "Play" and "Pause". I am therefore suggesting that this fault is not just applicable to my phone specifically. I was hoping that some others on this forum could check their Samsung Galaxy devices to see if they have the same issue and then go from there.

I'll look into this a bit more, but I'm out of ideas at the time. Apologies.

Mr Mendelli
Do you have a Samsung Galaxy and if so does it respond to voice commands when you use the Music App?
I used to, and I don't recall having any issues with playback commands. I have also yeilded no results from my research.
