why does verizon choose to be so silent?

Verizon has three absolutely amazing phones their network right now: the iPhone 4S ( and the 4..), the Rezound, and the Razr.

When the Nexus is announced, there's a decent chance that sales of the latter two will be cut noticeably. Why risk it, when they know that much of the crowd anticipating the GN will wait for them? They're right, too; it makes good business sense.

Patience, padawan.

Actually if you look at the Google Trends for the past week the Galaxy Nexus is receiving more search queries than the Droid RAZR. That's amazing considering all the advertising Verizon is doing for the RAZR.

I'm sure Verizon's marketing research team is aware of this and that has a lot to do with a Dec 8th release. Verizon doesn't want the GN siphoning sales away from the RAZR.

I'm sure those results are severely skewed by the amount of android fanatics constantly searching for information about the GN. Go into a crowded public area and ask two questions 1) What Carrier do you use? If Verizon ask 2) Which new phones do you know about for their service? Galaxy Nexus will be on the lower end of the devices.

I can remember a thread exactly like this when I was waiting for the charge. "Why won't they say SOMETHING....ANYTHING?? " I can see their reasoning. Anything they say can be misconstrued and wild speculation could result.

When they do make anything official it will just be an announcement of availability with no reason or apology for the delay. They don't owe us one.

Besides, the very second that word comes all the pent up frustration IMMEDIATELY disappears.

Why, when I'm sure they know of the disappointment in this device so far, does Verizon choose to be so quiet when a simple addressing of the situation would cause a cooling of the fires?
Disappointment? There's only been an issue with volume (on 2G?) on some models. I don't call this disappointment. There's still a high level of excitement for the GN, despite minor issues. It's not like the antenna or battery has problems (zing).

Chill peeps.

All great points!

It really comes down to my (our) digital blue balls. I can't hold this forever you know! lulz

Haha, this was a hypothetical statement I wrote just as an example of something a company may say.

Don't take it too literal peep.

I doubt they want to commit to a release date until they are sure they can meet it. And none of the carriers seem eager to talk about phones still in the pipeline.

If they are really just delaying the GNex due to the RAZR and Rezound, then I think they're being a bit foolish. The name of the game is attracting new customers away from other carriers, not selling this phone versus that phone when they're all being sold at cost. The GNex is much more likely to attract new business than the RAZR or Rezound. Each day the GNex goes unsold is another day that at least some people decide to go with the SGS2 on a different carrier.

I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, but how exactly does delaying the nexus help Verizon's bottom line?

How does Verizon make less money if they release the Nexus and some customers start walking out of their stores with a new Nexus instead of a new RAZR?

They will most likely sell the three android phones at the same subsidized price.

They probably cost more or less the same to buy from the manufacturers in bulk.

They make the same money (whatever you pay monthly) from you, regardless of the phone you bought.

I just fail to see the difference between selling 200k RAZRs or 100k RAZRs and 100k Nexuses (Nexi?) in the coming two and a half weeks, as far as their revenue and stockholders are concerned.

I completely agree that the whole "we'll release it when we feel like it and we won't tell you a thing before then" sucks big time, but I don't see how not having the Nexus for a few more weeks help their earnings.

This is exactly what happened in my case. Instead of waiting for the Nexus and switching to Verizon, I decided to stay on AT&T and ordered an unlocked Galaxy Note.

Now this may not be a smart move for some or most of you. Heck, it may not be smart move for me. But I'm sure there are other people out there that said "to hell with it" and steered away from Verizon.

One thing the RAZR and Rezound have that the GN doesn't... Verizon's bloatware. They have the potential to sell their services that are included with these phones. They have expectations for these phones in a contract somewhere and a business model for these releases. I'm sure it's a even dose of wanting to make sure the phone is ready to go and trying to meet expectations that were set for the two phones they are currently pushing.

Silence sells Razrs, Rezounds, and iPhone 4Ss. That's why.

and how does Verizon make more money selling an iPhone instead of releasing and selling a Nexus? If the point is channeling more customers towards other phones, then those phones better generate significantly more revenue.

I can see what stoic says above about the RAZR and ReZound having Verizon crapware that helps them make more money, but iPhone is sold without any carrier software on every single network.

If two people walk into a Verizon store today, one looking for an iPhone and the other a Nexus, how does Verizon make more money by selling both these customers iPhones?

I'm seeing a lot of Rezound and Razr commercials so, I guess they are really trying to give these things a chance to sell.

I think a lot of you are missing the point. Technically, they haven't missed a date. But clearly it wasn't the collective will of Google/Samsung/VZW to make all that hoopla about the Galaxy Nexus back in OCTOBER and then sit on their hands for a 6-7 weeks before releasing it. There's just no way that was the collective intention. While they haven't missed an official date, it's undeniable that VZW botched this, and have generated a good bit of negative will among their partners and their customers. To let them off on a technicality is stupid. This is not how a phone is released, and yes we all need to chill the hell out and remember that it's just a phone, but that doesn't change the fact that VZW screwed up and as a company doesn't give a rats ass about how you feel. They are a corporate machine, a company with basically no face, that is pretty excellent at building networks but pretty awful at understanding their customers and creating good will. Yes, you're a first adopter, a geek, a hardcore android enthusiast even, but that means VZW should be trying to please you MOST, not least of all. In the end, they will continue to succeed because of the type of market mobile communications is (an oligopoly). There's simply no way for a newcomer to trounce them by way of amazing customer service or customer experience, because there's no possible way for them to build the infrastructure they'd need to compete (unless their name is... Google).

I think the silence is bad. If they were a small company, they would bend over backwards for customers wanting information.

They don't have to announce a date, but at least throw us a bone.
And for those who keep insisting it's not "technically" late is ridiculous. Verizon is obviously stalling, pushing back, whatever word you want to inject instead of delaying.
This isn't some Droid built exclusively for VZW. This is a Nexus. Google should be as strong as Apple, and told Verizon a firm date.
They didn't play these games with the stupid iPhone.

The silence is deafening!

I have to agree with this. It's sad to see that the US has been left out of the excitement. Even the official unveiling was canceled in the US and done in another country.

Most of the vocal testers out there like Panda and P3Droid state that the phone is great...ready to go. So the only reason why I think we haven't heard anything is because like what people have mentioned. That they don't want it to overshadow the RAZR and Rezound phones.

I'm going to be even more blown away if Verizon doesn't release this in time for Black Friday. Why we have to wait some 3 weeks for something that seems ready to go, I have no idea.

The whole thing is just strange.

Exactly. They have 2 top phones they're promoting right now. The only people that know about the Galaxy Nexus are the people that follow Android on the internet and a few people that have seen the couple of news interviews. This group of people makes up a minority of the verizon customers and potential customers. When they're comfortable with the sales of these devices they'll introduce the GN.

So let's all buy a razr and return it when they launch the gnex the next day :-) .... Actually there's no way in hell I'm paying the restocking fee...

One reason they are not giving a date and another why they are not saying anything (if it is true about testing it and finding problems).

1. No reason to give a date if it is not 100%. Lets say they gave a date and it got passed with no release, **** is already bad enough and that would just make it worse.

2. If it didn't pass the testing. They are not going to come out and say the phone is having problems! They want to sell them as soon as they hit the stores (or online) and don't want people second guessing about buying a phone with problems. Keep in mind the general public will not hear about the problems and rumors we are hearing, and there is more general public then there is of us!
