Why give up on the Bionic?

I have a quick question regarding Ice Cream Sandwich update. I am aware that this update is supposedly removing the buttons (home/search etc).

Does this mean that older phones will NOT get Ice Cream Sandwich? The one major thing holding me back with the Bionic is the Ice Cream Sandwich update. I would hate to get this phone and not be eligible to get the ICS update.

Moto built an entire LTE chip of their own from scratch...that's quite a project; they wanted it for patent purposes and, hopefully, it will help make the phone better in the long run. The phones are built, according to the CEO, it was Verizon's decision to hold it until September; why, I have no idea.

Thanks for posting that. I knew they had switched but not why it took so long.

They should include the lap dock in with the $299 price tag. I wouldn't even consider the Galaxy then. That would be something worth actually waiting this long for.

And they should give you a free unlimited data plan for life. Then I would definitely buy it. Keep dreaming.

The DROID BIONIC - "The Start of Waiting". I too have been waiting for this phone, it might not be my next phone now, but it still is in the running.

I going to be a buyers market if all these releases pile up in the last 1/4.
That Cell phone Vendor booth at Costco is going to be a busy camper September thru Christmas eh?

I believe it just means that new phones built specifically for ICS will not need the capacitive or hard buttons. However, older phones that do have them should be able to get ICS as there should be code in place that allows ICS to use the buttons if they exist.

There is now way I will wait for the Bionic any long after all these delays and just seeing how many angry customers post on their Facebook page about all Moto products. Not one response to people who bought a Moto device and has a question. I myself had written a few emails kindly inquiring about the Bionic and to my surprise did not even receive a vague THANK YOU COMING THIS SUMMER response like I expected.

Perfect! Thanks for responding.

I just want a dual-core LTE phone, so whichever one comes first, will be the one I buy. It sounded like it was going to be the Bionic for a while now, but if the GS2 is LTE and has AMOLED, sorry Moto. Timing is everything in an industry that moves as fast as this one.

Alot of signs point to no on the LTE part for that phone, AMOLED probably but nothing has surfaced that it will have LTE.

I'm starting to feel the same way. I'm still partial to Moto, since my OG Droid has been (and still is) awesome. I desire more speed, but the phone is still rock solid and only missing HDMI in my mind. Time will tell, but i'm one impatient S.O.B. :)

This phone was announced January 5th. It's getting pretty old waiting for it. I wouldn't blame anyone for looking elsewhere.

And since the Droid 1, all of moto's "high end" phones have been in decline in terms of software an build quality.

Thats why I still have my OG Droid. Its just solid and quality is great. I have yet to see a phone worth ditching the OG Droid for. The Bionic supposedly is the one to do that, if I stick with Moto. I sure hope its close in 'feel' as the OG Droid is pretty solid and not plasticy at all.

Yeah, the OG was a homerun that moto can't seem to repeat in my opinion. By looking at their latest releases, I don't think the bionic will quite match it in feel. Moto seems to be moving away from the metal body/frame and more towards the plasticy feel, a la samsung.

I think now they're even farther behind with Nvidia's announcement about Quad-Core phones coming next year. It'll be hard for the Bionic to compete with that.
