Re: why is my brand new s6 so slow on Wi-Fi

I am interested in this issue. I have comcast at home and don't have any issues. It may be due to me using my own modem and router. Comcast equipment is bad imo.

DNS SET does not fix Wifi lol. Did any of you even READ the app description? If ANYTHING, it would only help when going to Google.com

Fine if you want to believe it, but all you're doing is giving that app a total breach of your privacy.
Depends on what DNS is using, DNSSet is using Googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 DNS. Alot are using Google open DNS, its secure and wont breach any privacy.

HEY GUYS I HAVE FINNALY FOUND THE REAL FIX TO THIS PROBLEM. New to this FORUM btw, but I read it alot. I have the s6 Edge on Verizon and even though I'm showing full wifi signal and so was my wife's s5(she's on att&t) neither of us could barely get a page to load. I've done everything. Set manual channels. Disabled everything you can think of that might cause it on the phone. Disabled ipv6 in the router settings. Factory reset. Cache clean. Anything you can think of I've done it. Even tried to manually change the DNS to Google or something else. That didn't work but DNS IS THE PROBLEM. There's a problem with lollipop and DNS. And they are probably going to send an update eventually to fix it but I wasn't about to wait and I know my wife's s5 wouldn't get it.

So I was ready to return it. Anyway out if nowhere I found THE SOLUTION AND THE APP THAT FIXES IT IMMEDIATELY TODAY. Go to the to the play store and download DNS SET. Forget your connection and re enter your WiFi password. Then open the DNSet app and check off auto run. Then hit the run button. INSTANT FIX! I SWEAR TO GOD. You have no idea how happy I was to see this work. I stopped a it and reopened it many times to see if it would always work and it does. Instant loads. Super fast speed. Christ I was outside of my house and even there everything was loading instantly like it should. YouTube instantaneous. Anything. It fixes the problem. Believe me I went through this and it works and it takes 5 mins to do it at most. It's was a life savor. Don't return your phone or get frustrated and say screw it. This works and I couldn't wait to frigging share it with everyone because I know how can frustrating it is. I was about to return my s6 edge today. Swear to God. The only thing it didn't work in was my friends s5 today on sprint and I don't know why. Something to do with sprint maybe. But it definitely works with verizon and attt.

JUST A HEADS UP, I did leave the ipV6 disabled on my router and I still have WiFi direct disabled on my phone because I was afraid to change anything after this worked. Might have nothing to do with it but if for some crazy reason this app doesn't work, disable that and it will be fine. All my other settings on the router are normal. Auto channel and AES/TPIK are still on. Anyway This works and I was happy to help so I posted. Let me know of it works u for you guys. And spread the word so people aren't dealing with this [language removed]. It's not right. Let me know how you make out.

If DNS is the problem, u wont need any app to change DNS and can do it within the phone. Just check on WiFi advance settings and change IP settings from DHCP to Static. There you can enter manually what DNS you want to use. Either from yoursd network provider or Google open DNS 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4.

I get that. But for some reason that is not working. It is only working with dnset. God's honest truth. So it might be a dns problem along with a VPN problem. But I know for a fact that manually it's not working for me and about 95 percent of people, but with auto mode on dnset it's working. Regardless this is what fixes it and it let's us breath a sigh of relief for awhile. I can't explain why that dnset works but changing to a static IP or just using a manual dns app doesn't work. Like I said could be a VPN problem. What I do know is this works. And that's all that matters to me.

You need to set a static IP with the router for the phone first or reserve phone IP (if router have this feature) and than turn off wifi, turn back on before it change the DNS settings. But need to repeat these steps every time, when turning off wifi and back on.

Since DNSSet is working, than no need to do anything. What the app does is to simplify everything for users and create a local VPN network, using Google DNS. Since the app doesnt required any permissions and its safe to use. Its a breach, when the app require internet permission, than the dev can collect any data while using the app and since it doesnt, than its safe.

If u dont grant the app permission to communicate between device and router. How could it create a VPN tunnel? Its Samsungs/Google security settings and not app permissions. Try to install the app and you will see what I meant.

I think you have a misunderstanding of security. If you're routing all of your Web traffic through their app, which you are, they can quietly capture data/change VPNs all without your knowledge anytime they want. Whether they do that or not, they can. That's not safe and I won't use the app.

The data does not travel through the VPN with this app, which is what your talking about.
The IP address does not change with it on or off. The VPN is required on Android to re-route the DNS lookup but does not route the data through the VPN. It's a workaround for the security hardcoded into the Android system. So your data does not go through the VPN. The VPN is only internal on telephone.

That's your choice obviously. I and others have explained already how it's safe. So I think you're misunderstanding the app itself and how THIS ONE specifically works. And it still doesn't change the fact that it works for anything that connects to the Internet. No matter what app or Web page.

Re: why is my brand new s6 so slow on Wi-Fi

Just out of curiosity I tested when I got home and pull the speeds I should. This is with me changing nothing and just connecting to my network.

I do have my own equipment though.. So the issue may really be the equipment from Comcast. Below is my test / equipment.

IT'S A MIRACLE!!!! As you wrote, I downloaded DNS Set, and turned it on. Then I dumped the wifi, and reconnected as you said. 100% bandwidth now!

Minor con: DNS-SET notification is constantly coming up when you swipe downward to see notifications. Small price to pay.

Also, as I suspected all along, this is an Android Lollipop problem. What the hell is taking so long to fix it?

Not sure if it has been mentioned, and I think it's great that the DNS change is working but...did anyone try WiFI Analyzer from the play store = free?? Install it and let it tell you which band is the best with the least amount of traffic. If you choose to change it on your router then make sure that you adjust your other devices that use WiFi, such as a laptop that can change the band to match. There's no such band setting on the phone itself as it will use whichever one the router is set to use.

Are you using the proper encryption?

I can confirm that DNSet worked for me. except guess what, i was having this EXACT issue on my Nexus 7 tablet that just started a couple days ago. It would take 30 seconds to a minute to load a web page initially, once loaded it was fast to click links on pages (example: took a minute to load CNN.com home page but then once loaded clicking on articles was fast).

This was sooo frustrating but this fixed it. I'm not happy about needing an app to solve the problem but at least i can browse the internet on my tablet again. FYI i am on comcast and using comcast modem/router combo.

Is there a way to disable DNSet? Often it interferes with SMS and Cell calls. When is Samsung going to fix all of this?

I did it!! I fixed the problem! I even created an account just to share the love! Okay... in this order. (And sorry new to the form, so this may look a little sloppy)

1. Go to the wifi settings where you can view your wifi name.

2. Click and hold it until the settings thing pops up.

3. Click on modify network config.

4. Then click "Show Advanced Options"

5. Then go down to DNS 1 and change it to 8.8.4.4 (even know that's what DNS 2 says on mine, I just made them both the same anyways).

6. Click "Save"

7. Run a test and be amazed! I was only testing 1.23 mbps before I did it.

DNSet worked so far!!!! My WiFi is ATT Uverse with faster speeds than expected bc no one else in the neighborhood uses it. Chromebook and laptop are fine. The galaxy was slower than dialup on WiFi.

This worked for me. Thank you KeganRomero! Has anyone heard when Google might release a fix for this problem?

I tried this fix and it did not work for me. However DNSet did work!!. I don't get it. I'm on Time Warner Cable. I'm just trying to get Pandora to stream and my emails to sync properly to my S6 Active! I would like to get this resolved without having to use DNSet! Any ideas?
