why is not my phone (Samsung galaxy j1 ace) getting connected to my PC?

i have windows xp . i downloaded kies but even after that my phone is not getting connected to my pc? it shows hardware installation problem dialog box . What should i do?

Welcome to Android Central! When you connect via USB, swipe down the notification panel--do you see a USB icon? If so, tap it and make sure MTP is selected.

It might be a compatibility (or obsolescence) issue. XP is really old, and is becoming an increasing security risk, since it's no longer supported by Microsoft. I strongly suggest you upgrade to Windows 8 or 10.
