Why isn't my Samsung Galaxy S Relay recognizing my headphones?

Samsung Galaxy S Relay will not recognize headphones

The headphone plug for my Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G does not work. When I plug in headphones, the sound continues to come out of the speakers. To check if it was a hardware or software issue, I installed SoundAbout. Turns out it is a software/os issue, as I got it to work using SoundAbout. I want a fix which would allow the phone to detect the headphones normally instead of being forced to use the app. The Phone is running Samsung's version of Android 4.1.2.

If it is a software issue you might need to do a factory reset to fix it. I would make sure to back up all your data before the reset.
