Why would anyone in an LTE area buy a phone without LTE, it makes no sense. What a huge bummer if there isn't LTE, or if we have to wait longer for an LTE version. If this rumor is true, it has me leaning back towards a Note 2.

Doesn't LTE require propriety binaries to run? Which would mean that any LTE Nexus would have to be carrier locked. There's no way for a sim-unlocked phone to have LTE that works on all networks. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

For me, 8 GB is plenty for a phone. I don't watch movies on a phone, nor is it necessary to put my entire music library on it. In fact, about the only thing I listen to on my phone are podcasts.
Yeah, for YOU that works. But for the majority of the rest of us, we need that space even for just installing games for our train commute! (NOVA3 takes up almost 3GB by itself!)

At least LG seems intent on improving the exterior build quality, fit, and finish, whereas Samsung is still satisfied with their existing plastic construction that still reminds me of the old transistor radio days…

lol how so? Maybe I'm missing something... Amazing likeness...

Because G2X.

Some people say they "took a while" to fix problems. That's not entirely accurate. They NEVER fixed the problems.

The GPS still takes several minutes to lock, if it ever does. It drops signal switching from 4g to 2g, so you have to set 2g only if you don't want to lose signal. It overheats while charging, which some phones can handle, but others can't. Regardless of if you have 2.2, 2.3.3 or 2.3.4, it has numerous software issues. It lags constantly forcing reboots, after which it will work OK for a little while and start lagging hard again. If you decide to root and install CM7, you can expect things like random reboots, disappearing APN settings, etc because the kernel source LG released was completely broken and had to be hacked severely just to work. CM9 is broken because LG constantly lied and said there would be ICS for the *g2x* and then finally said they meant the *o2x* instead, but even that hasn't materialized yet.

Anyone who claims they've never had a problem with their g2x is either 1) lying, 2) never uses their phone, 3) doesn't actually own a g2x or 4) the luckiest mother on earth.

Yes, there hardware is hefty and durable. That's about all you can say about it. This wasn't supposed to be their low-end designed to fail device. This was their frickin flagship, or so they claimed at the time. Would LG's failures be remedied by having Google do the software? Maybe. But after they put out this kind of crap, and expected people to be happy with half-baked updates that created as many problems as they fixed, there's no way I'll buy another LG.

edit: Oh, and this wasn't my first Android device, so I have quite a bit of context. I previously owned a G1, MyTouch 3G, Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant and then the G2X. While the G1 and MT3G were slow, they were products of their day. The G2X was never a good phone. I still kick myself daily for not getting the Sensation instead.

All of the kernel related problems won't happen because Google will be doing that. Same with any other software issues. Yes, I owned a G2X for ~6 months before switching to AT&T. Didn't have most of the problems you listed. And the ones I did have I couldn't complain about since I was running "custom" software.

My two cents...I've got the EVO LTE and like it a lot. I bought the Nexus 7 and it makes me want a Nexus phone. However, the LG Nexus phone specs aren't significantly different from the EVO's. In my mind, at least, the LG isn't a big enough upgrade to warrant the expense. Also since I use my phone as my music player it needs to have a little memory (32gb+) to make me give up my SD. I'm trying to get used to using Google Play for music, but it's a little limited when I'm on the subway. So regardless of the manufacturer, I'm skipping this one and hoping for a more substantial upgrade. Side note: there's no way Google would put their name on a POS phone. Give LG a break, because Google is basically vouching for them.

LG phones were crap. My wife had the shine, went through 4 of them in 3 months when at&t offered her a Samsung Eternity to replace it. My brother had the chocolate and had nothing but problems with it, and a guy I knew at work had the xenon and had his screen taped because it fell off. But that was then this is now.

I still wouldn't write them off in spite of all that just because companies have to stay competitive and have to compete and all the nexus phones thus far have had exceptional build quality. I can't help but think of Motorola and the crap they used to put out compared to the awesome solid build quality of the new RAZR phones. Companies change over time.

I will give any nexus a chance.

If I can see it in person and see the build quality and how it performs then I'd buy it no matter who made it.

Now if it was a moto or htc nexus I might buy without even seeing it yet as I've had phones from both and loved them.

LG making this phone wont change how stock android works. . I like the back cover of the phone. looks pretty sweet. I mean no matter what camera they use it cant be worse than the Galaxy Nexus. I think its more of the 8gb of storage. I mean i dont watch movies or download music. but i mean i would like to be able to play a few games with out deleting one or two just to download another one because of lace of storage.

I am not correcting you if your wrong because I think you may be right. I have a Gnex and it is LTE but it is Verizon LTE and when I use it it is blazingly fast, faster than my home Wifi. Is Verizon LTE different than AT&T LTE? What about the LTE that is hitting Great Britain? As far as I knew LTE and CDMA were proprietary, so if this phone is only going to be sold on Google Play I can't see how a Verizon or AT&T LTE version can be included unless Google cuts some deal with these companies or buys a license or something for these technologies.

As for LG. I like the screen and processor specs. I had a previous pre-android LG flip phone and the build was solid - actually feels better than my Gnex. I've got one year to go on my Gnex contract so will probably wait and see what next year brings, but I just don't see any LTE device being sold in the play store, and after having a phone with 32GB even though I have only used 9 GB including the OS, I would want something bigger than 8 GB.

Dont care about the Sd card. My previous phone ran out of app storage and I was unable to install any new app even though I had a 3/4 empty SD card. Every time I used the phone it was complaining about lack of storage space every 2 minutes. I like this format much better because it lets me store apps and data in one place, plus the slowest part of any computer system is having to read and write to physical removable storage.

First of all, if you're going to hate then use correct grammar. It's THEIR not there. Second of all, u do realize that those pictures were taken with pre-release hardware, right?

Oh I'm sorry for misspelling a word. Are your feelings hurt by it? Did it make your day any harder?

I'll be using it on TMo so idc about LTE, though if TMo had LTE I'd want it since I live in NYC :P But yeah, I hope it has NFC. Well, as a Nexus, I think it HAS to have it..

Unless the phone has every current radio inside of it, they will simply have to make slightly different versions of the phone. Apple just did this with the iPhone 5.

Here's a breakdown of the frequency differences:

Yes, but (one) it's Apple and (two) iOS isn't open source, so it's very easy for Apple to negotiate permission/license for use of the proprietary binaries. I think it would be pretty much impossible for Google to get permission to sell open source devices on the Play Store that contain carrier proprietary stuff.

No opinion on the brand. Owned 1 LG phone my entire life and it worked just fine. That being said the only thing I "hate" is the supposed 8gig internal with no SD slot option. The more I say it the more I think "WTF?"

Get over yourselves, Get over Samsung and HTC, Get over Motorola. LG is here and it is a major competitor.. Live with it.

Actually no one has to "get over" their preference. LG has to prove quality before I will just "get over" the companies who have a better history. I had an LG device that was AWESOME at first, but died after a year. Verizon wouldn't help me, and it was past it's warranty timeframe. I'm sure LG makes great devices, but I still prefer Samsung and Motorola.

How come you feel the need to hate on people who disagree with you? Repeating the phrase "get over it" doesn't make you anymore right than the next guy with an opinion. Can you set aside the emotion and just use cold hard facts to convince people that LG is a contender? Cause that would be cool for me to read so that I can maybe see your side a little better.

If Google has control of the software and it is sold in the Play store for the same price as the Galaxy Nexus, it shall be mine.

Good tread so far, it's interesting to see the broad spectrum of opinions.

Based on the rumored specs, and leaked pics, here are my general impressions of the device:

Pros:
  • Latest, and greatest Snapdragon S4 Pro a.k.a. APQ8064. This thing's a BEAST! GPU even beat out the iPhone 5 in ONE of it's benckmarks. Source. Full article.
  • 2 GB of RAM is 2x what my Netbook has. :D
  • IPS Display with plenty of resolution. My favorite display technology.
  • It's a Nexus!

Cons:
  • 8/16GB of Storage?! I know it's like beating a dead horse, but I think 16GB is the bare minimum for any mid to high end smart phone. On the Nexus 7, it was rumored that this was due to avoid pissing off the other tablet manufactures. It may be a similar the case with the LG Nexus 4 (or whatever you want to call it).
  • Lack of capacitive buttons. I understand on-screen touch-controls can be more versatile; but I prefer the added screen real estate of off-screen buttons.
  • I'm not a fan of the glossy back. It might look like vampire skin in sunlight; but I prefer a matte finish. Using a case will fix that, so it's not a big deal.

All in all, we'll have to wait and see what the launch price will be. I imagine it'll be around $550 when it gets on the Play Store. In typical fashion the price will drop within the first couple of months. Finances permitting, I'd love to upgrade to this phone when it gets to about $400. :)

Let's be fair....you cherry picked that ONE benchmark. The iPhone 5 still performs better in most others. Of course, using benchmarks to compare devices running different software is foolish anyway. :-)
