Why Verizon Won't Announce The Galaxy Nexus

I think its pretty well established that they were trained on it. I talked to someone last night on the phone that told me they were trained about a week ago...and she seemed to know all the stats. She told me that Verizon was being really tight lipped about it. I personally think that there is no bugs that are delaying this thing...its all being done to get as many sales for the Razr and Rezound as possible. If Google lets this happen again with another Nexus device I may just switch to Apple to prevent future launch frustrations.

The iPhone was late this year and barely an upgrade.

Well I got tired of all the speculations on this forum and called Verizon. The agent is a veteran of 16 years and she told me that up to today no one has had any training on the Galaxy Nexus. There is no release date in the near future for pre-orders. That could change at the last minute as Samsung has not shipped the phones out to Verizon. Once they get the phones in or before they get a date of when Verizon will start receiving the phone, training will start for the employees. Training could be done in a day or two as it's possible the phone could be rushed at the last minute. That has happened to a few phones they sold. She also said that before they got their first iPhone everyone was trained before any information was sent out to the media or posted on their web site.
All I'm going to do is patiently wait for the day when the phone is available to purchase. As for all the rumors and estimates by the various websites I'm going to ignore them.
For those waiting until for a change at Verizon's website. Go to bed as if it was coming out they would have posted it already. Everyone needs to chill out and just wait it out.
You all have a good night and maybe we'll see the phone released when we least expect it.

That is all you can do is wait.

Have some corporate experience, I'm sure Verizon was very deliberate in planning the promotion and release of the Nexus. It's likely that Verizon decided that providing any information about this phone, given its preceived "next generation" nature, prior to a certain date would hurt sales of the Razor and Resound (despite comparable specs). Factor in Apple's temperamental nature, and I'm sure that all the companies involved picked X date or X number of days from the launch of a previous device to push out the Nexus.

What that date could be is anyone's guess. It could be 15/20/30/60 days from the launch of the Razor or Resound or iPhone 4S. I'm thinking that we won't hear anything promotion-wise until December and we won't have it in hand until mid-December. That makes sense for Verizon. I'm sure they want a big product launch close enough to Christmas to generate sales, but not too close so as to waste that window. I'm not sure what they have in the pipe, but conceivably, they could hold it even longer if no newer hardware is planned to launch in January and sales of existing products look to be strong through the end of the year. So long as Google and Samsung don't object, that is.

Bottom line: it looks like we spent November fretting over nothing. Although I'm disappointed, I'm not heartbroken. Now if we don't hear anything for another week or two, I'm giving up and ordering the GSM version. That's just the limit of my own patience with this thing. I know it's a bit juvenile not to wait it out, but some of us have been waiting for this phone for a long time. It's agonizing to be so close to getting it and still be so far away from that.

Be careful, I've been saying the same thing all along and people call me crazy, lol

Be careful buddy you may want to don an asbestos suit because I have a feeling you are about to be flamed by the lynch mob ;)

Personally I think we will see it before Christmas. If rumors of bugs and incompatibility are true they will hold the device off as long as possible giving them the chance to fix them and if in the end they aren't then the device will be launched regardless and they will do damage control as needed, dealing with any repercussions after the holiday season.

If Verizon really cared about bugs we would not have had the monstrosity that was the Blackberry Storm. ;) Which coincidentally was a holiday release if I recall...

Also I too am bummed out that the phone is not released yet. My biggest gripe is that my Droid X has been replaced 3 times and every single one that Verizon gives me is just as bad as the one before it. I want to end the cycle and just get a new phone but I will absolutely not settle for the Razr/Rezound.

LOL. This is my favorite rep. conversation, yet. She must be Waffles26 launchpad for news. If you put even a smidgen of effort into poking holes in a few parts of her story. You'll find some conflicting info. embedded within.

Believe me, this is the most impatient I've been about a gadget since the XBOX 360 launched. Like all of us, I want the Nexus now if not sooner. It's ok to be miffed that Verizon is sitting on the Nexus. If anything, I have to imagine Samsung isn't happy that Motorola and HTC phones carried the "latest and greatest" banner at Verizon through Black Friday/Cyber Monday, especially with all the time Samsung sunk into developing the Nexus.

What would kill me is if Verizon cripples AOSP features or adds bloat. It looks like the My Verizon and Backup Assistant apps will be on the phone (from the videos on Google's YouTube channel). That I can live with. But if they block features the GSM version has, or if I open the launcher and see City ID and Let's Golf, I may lose my mind. I truly don't think that will happen (Google I think would have a conniption) but with Verizon, you never know. And the "disable app" feature won't satisfy me in that case. I want unmolested Android darn it!

In my eyes, it's not just that the Nexus is "delayed" that is so sad. The thing that up sets me most, is that the phone I wanted most this year was the Galaxy S 2 back in April. Since then all U.S. carriers slacked to get this phone. Then we hear Verizon won't be carrying it because a new Necus is coming to Verizon. And now 6+ months after the galaxy S 2 went on sale, we still have no version for Verizon. Not even the galaxy nexus.

I doubt Google would allow them to molest their Nexus, freely. It defeats the whole reason Google introduced the mantra behind the product line. Compromise on certain carrier requests, sure. The second they allow, Googles Nexus line, to be exploited by a carrier, it becomes a comical effigy of what it was meant to represent Google knows that, adding 2 bloat apps. is already a slippery slope. I'll lose all cred. for Google if they ever turn over a one off Nexus, geared towards consumers, than developers and android enthusiasts.

From what I'm reading, and I've read a lot on this, people are more upset by the lack of communication then they are over the delay itself. .

This. Just give us a date so the rumors can stop (some are just absurd) and those who need to can plan accordingly - I know a lot of you have dying phones.

Regardless of the actual reason for the delay, it seems that Verizon could have prevented a lot of ill will towards their company by simply stating that they are waiting on some bug fixes and flash support and that an announcement will be made shortly.

From what I'm reading, and I've read a lot on this, people are more upset by the lack of communication then they are over the delay itself. I can understand that as it makes me feel like I'm taken for granted.

I don't really think there will be a lot of ill will. The amount of people getting worked up is insanely minuscule. Some will get a GSM GN and leave, the rest will get the phone when it does come out and forget all about it. I don't think Verizon is too worried if they loose a handful of customers who irrationally get upset by a phones imaginary release date.

True - and anyone that would leave Verizon over this would likely leave any other carrier for a similar reason. I, for one, just am not willing to forgo their coverage/data speeds.

Never said anything about leaving... Just think a little communication from them would be the right thing to do for their customers...

He was responding to what I said. Have to take it in context. My point is that Verizon isn't worried about a handful of customers that feel they are entitled to more info. Its not enough people for them to even waste the energy considering it

And that lack of concern for their customers and the fact that they feel that a simple communication is a "waste of energy" is exactly what's wrong here!

... and it's more than a handful dude!

Its not nearly as many as you think. Maybe a few hundred. Its a drop in a bucket. 99.99999% of Verizon customers don't have a clue about phones until they come out. Smart businesses cater to the vast majority of their customers, not waste resources on a few that get worked up over something like a rumored release

Verizon won't have the coverage monopoly forever. And, make no mistake, that is the reason most people stick with them. Whenever you are made to feel like your concerns are not important, it does leave an impression. This "silence" is definitely not a good PR move on Verizon's part.

D.

Actually, I'm not even a Verizon customer. I'm using logic. People getting worked up over a phone because they think it should have released already are being ridiculous. They are not thinking logically, or with any business sense

Truer words couldn't be spoken. That is exactly what is going on here (IMO). The phone needs to be ready to go and when it is, they will release it. The fact that I just got tweeted from VZW News and emailed that it is coming soon is great news. It will be released soon - patience, patience, patience!!

This

Despite what some people here may think, those of us who frequent phone forums and know about this stuff represent a tiny, tiny minority of VZW customers. Think about it: VZW has 100 million subscribers. If there were 100,000 people on all Android forums, that's 0.1% of VZWs customers. That's nothing.
