why, when I switch on location, does it go automatically to "high accuracy"

I have a lg g2 mini and when I switch on location it goes automatically to "high accuracy". Other options are "power saving" or "device sensors only" but I can select these only after I go into the settings. If I then select eg "device sensors only" it accepts this choice. But once I switch off location and switch in on again it starts again with "high accuracy".

Welcome to Android Central! That's just how the system toggle works--no real explanation. I suppose the developers figured that if someone actually taps the toggle, they want the most accurate location. I just keep it on Battery Saving the whole time, since I rarely need a precise location. The times I do need more precision, that's when I go to the Location settings and change it to High Accuracy manually.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any 3rd party toggle widgets that directly control the location settings--they only take you to the menu.

I have my phone set on battery saving permanently. Then i use Tasker to automatically turn the GPS on when I open certain apps (eg. Maps) and to switch it off once i close the app. Works flawlessly.
