why wont my headphones work?

[Android Central Question]

I have a Motorola g fast and a few months ago it has not been playing audios from any app to the headphones. I was just watching videos and all of the sudden I realised my headphones weren't working and the sound was coming from the speaker. I unplugged them and plugged the back in but all it did was give me a notification saying something about a USB. to connect the headphones it does go into the charging port, but it's not a USB. I tried my sisters headphones and they worked completely fine. it's just weird how the headphones all of the sudden stop working. I've went to settings multiple times to check if I can do anything about it, but nothing can help me.

Welcome to Android Central! Which brand and model are the headphones? Can you test them on another device? If they don't work on the other device, then they probably failed. Are they still under warranty?

You say that your sister's headphones worked in you device but I'd be more interested in knowing if your headphones worked in another device? Since you've proven that other headphones work with your device the next step would be to see if the headphones themselves work.
