Why won't my phone allow me to send a video through text?

I am new to the HTC One. I came from the iPhone 5, and yes it annoys me that I cannot send a video through MMS straight from my gallery. I should not have to film in such a low quality to send a video. While the quality of a video sent through imessage would degrade when sent it was a much better quality than the HTC One MMS video setting.

That's why we're describing solutions with 0 degradation and, such as sending links or using dropbox, etc. MMS file sizes are limited by at least three filters: carrier restriction, app restriction and device restrictions. The least of those three filters is the size you end up sending and to prevent major irregularities related to that, on Android it's better to use a more ideal service than mms.

late reply, but who is anyone but the CONSUMER to decide what is and isn't a good option? HTC is a joke of a company...

No, you are failing to admit that the problem lies in network limitations, not the particular phone. The option isn't there because it isn't a good option. I agree it'd be great if there was a sort of universal iMessage, but I'm also well aware that no matter what you do sending a video of any decent length is simply not possible over the sms/mms path.
I still want to see a video you send through mms. Even if it is resized. I've seen them in the past, and often had trouble figuring out what I was looking at. Show me how a video small enough (length and or resolution) for mms taken on any phone is "acceptable" and a better solution than ones I've provided.

Can't believe this thread is alive again...

The average consumer is an ID10T. This would be like going out and buying a Blu-Ray player, then getting mad when you get home and it doesn't work with your 17" black and white TV you got in 1973. Sure, there are probably converters out there to get it work*, but it's still silly to blame the blu-ray manufacturer for not making their product compatible. And yes, watching a Blu-Ray on an old B&W TV is a pretty good metaphor for trying to compress a 720p HD video to send over MMS with a 3-5MB file size limit. The technology behind SMS/MMS is simply antiquated compared to pics/vids today's phones are able to produce.

HTC may have it's flaws as a company, but this isn't even an HTC thing...Android doesn't even have native support for this sort of thing and I don't know if any of the major Android manufacturers support it. I know my last 2 Samsung phones didn't. There is an "MMS" mode in the camera settings that can be used if you REALLY need to send something via text message. Kudos to Apple, I guess, for providing support for this, but I still say that unless you're strictly sending via iMessage (and not SMS/MMS) that it really isn't an advisable method for sharing high def media. The quality on the receiving end is absolutely awful.

*actually, there probably aren't

The phone fails as a whole because it lacks this one option? I had an iphone and never sent video via text because it took forever to send and ended up looking like garbage to the person I sent it to anyway.

I agree. It fails because one ONE thing that has a workaround to it???? The IPhone and others must be perfect. I would never buy a phone strictly becuase of its ability to send video through text.Seems like such a small part of the smartphone experience. And the HTC One is so good in everything else.

Click on the camera from home screen, then on top right click settings , click video recorder then select mms setting and you will be able to send video's through text message.

I have the HTC One Max and an iPhone (two numbers). I HATE the iPhone and will never get another one; HOWEVER, when I take a video on the iPhone and send it via text (SMS) it sends no problem. The HTC will not let me send videos no matter if they are 3 seconds or 1 minute.

I know this is an old thread but like the op, I searched for a solution. I found an app called VideoKit. It takes some extra steps and a bit of time but it will take a 1080 video and downsize the file to a resolution of your choice. I routinely take videos of 30-45 seconds and use the app to shrink them to mms size. I too like to capture the video in 1080 quality in case I want to save it rather than save a poor quality video. And yes the quality of the mms video is poor. I use Dropbox if I want to share a high quality video.

My previous phone which was a Droid RAZR Maxx had the same issue with texting video's so it's not an HTC thing. Must be an Android thing. My wife's iphone will automatically shrink video for text which is really convenient. That's the one thing an iPhone can do that I'm envious of! I'd still much rather have my HTC One!

I have multiple lines on my account. I have an iPhone and an HTC One Max. I can send videos via my iPhone anytime I make one. I can NEVER send a video via my HTC no matter what I do. I have to removed the memory card, put it in my computer, upload the VID to YouTube, email the web address to myself, copy it, paste in a text, and send to to who I want to receive the video. A lot of BULL****!!!!! If you are traveling you wouldn't be able to do it unless you had access to a computer. iOS has the ability to convert the file so it's not too big. Andriod for whatever reason will not do this. This is the ONLY thing I like about iOS over Andriod. I HATE that iPhone and much prefer the Andriod, except for the ability to send videos.

This thread is hilarious...
Talk about first world problems...

Sending video (binary data) through text seems absurd to me when other methods are available... but then again, I don't care what others do.

Anyone saying that iMessage videos are terrible quality are just wrong. I have the Turbo, recorded a 1 minute clip and my wife asked me to send it to her... nope. I just remembered why I always go back to iPhone. I can send a video iPhone to iPhone through iMessage and the quality is fine, not 1080, but fine. I do love my Droid Turbo, but no video sending with stock Android is super lame. I came back to Android because of an email alert issue with iOS8. Having two kids, I send videos all the time and this missing element with Android is just ridiculous. I don't want to use youtube, dropbox.... no thanks

How can i send my video to my email or text from my phone? 186mb 1:16 minutes mp4. I have htc desire and just boight a new galaxy tab A that i love. Its a private video but i do eanna share w a select few HELP
