Wi-Fi teather

So now that I have my DInc rooted and loving the control that it gives me (although I am not set on a ROM) I was wanting to explore teathering for my Acer Icona A100. The tab does wi-fi only, no 3G or 4G access. I was wondering what programs everyone uses and what they like about them

CM7 has Wi-Fi tethering built in. And of course there is always WiFi-tether here: android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting that you can use on any rooted ROM.

Both work well.

And that portable wi-fi hotspot bypasses the vzw hotspot and the charges associated?

In theory - however I would be careful.

I only tether sparingly in "emergency" situations and have not gotten charged, but then again it does not throw off my usage pattern either.
