My work has one SSID but operates on both bands. I find the 2.4 more reliable and I want my phone to connect to that one but it decides by itself to connect to the 5 GHz one. I see no option in advanced settings or anywhere else to force the band. Am I overlooking it? I can tell it picked the 5 GHz one using WiFi Analyzer app, it shows the MAC address of what I connected to and what is being broadcasted.

I don't think that there is a way if the ssid is the same

The process calls for the device to choose which system has better signal/speed (after I have done a lot of wireless network design for mobile devices). 2.4 Ghz can be better but usually 5 GHz will be a better choice for speed and signal.

My moto x allowed me to force which band I wanted. What's unfortunate at my work is 5 GHz works very well at my desk but when I get up to move around the building, the 2.4 GHz is more stable.
