WiFi only Xoom for $600!! Who's in ?

I imagine that I will buy the 3g model and cancel after the 1st month and use it for wifi only.....If I am going on a trip and want to use the 3g feature than I will call verizon and activate it and cancel it after my trip? Does that make sense?
So you are essentially willing to pay about $255+tax for 3G for a month? I don't like that strategy, but it makes perfect sense if that is something you really want for that month.

I'm placing an order for three XOOMs tomorrow. If the WiFi is available, I'd get two 3G versions and one WiFi.

If not, I'll get three 3Gs. Won't wait for WiFi.

the 799 price tag is an unsubsidy price. This means that there is no subsidy on the 3g here, at least not yet. Why would they subsidize 3g when you're not signing a contract?

Has Verizon come out and said they won't have contracts for the Xoom? The unsubsidized price was released but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they had a 1 or 2 year contract option that would get the price closer to $600.

Anyway, I'm very encouraged by this news. They've set the bar at a reasonable level and products like the Tab 10.1 and the Flyer will meet or beat it. Personally the Flyer is my favorite, but I hope HTC beats this price by at least $100.

How much is a data plan usually for the 3g/4g model? And is it something that you can activate when needed for a month or are you locked in for a year etc.....

Well take all this with a grain of salt because Verizon has not been forthcoming with any specifics, but according to what we have seen it is a month to month no contract kind of thing.

Here is a link to their current 3G tablet plans. They do not currently have 4G tablet plans.

Verizon Wireless - Mobile Broadband - Plans

Basically cheapest plan is $20 for the month and 1GB data. Top one is $80 for 10 GB.

Personally, I think $200 is worth spending for the flexibility. While I could tether with my Epic, it's one more thing to worry about, and I'm guessing that the Xoom running 3G will have better battery life than the Epic acting as a router. And, given that the Xoom will be upgradable to LTE sometime in the future (at a cost, I understand), it makes sense to spend just a little more.

Also, I'll be buying mine at Costco, and if they do their typical $100 discount, then the price will be $699 (and with a 90-day return, to boot). That seems entirely reasonable for what I'll be getting. Overall, I'm cool with the whole thing.

First it likely will not be just one month. Second, where did I say I was going to pay it? I said I wanted the 3G option, but I did not think I was willing to pay the extra $200 to have it.

I am leaning to either go with the WiFi or wait for the 3G price to drop as I figure it likely will.

Didn't mean to offend, I wasn't criticizing you for your thought. You just said "you imagine you will..." that says to me you were leaning towards doing it.

It really wasn't a big deal to me, I said "if it is worth that money for you then it sounds like a understandable plan."

If Wifi is released on the same date as the 3G version then I'll most definitely get Wifi, otherwise I'll get the data for a month and cancel, but then I'll always have the option to get a plan again if I ever feel that wifi-only isnt enough.

I have a feeling its going to be Q2 until we see the wifi version. I hope im wrong though...

That's probably what I'll be doing as well. I'll hold off a bit though until I have an idea of when the WiFi only version will be available.

I plan on buying the 3g model on launch day at Best Buy. As a Reward Zone Premier Silver member, my return policy is extended from 14 to 45 days and gives me a zero restocking fee. Basically, I have a 45 day trial which will cost me $55 ($20 month plan + $35 activation fee) should I decide to return it. The only way I see myself returning it is if they come out with the wifi model within that timeframe or someone else puts out something cheaper and better.

I was just going to hold out for the wifi model but I need this thing to entertain me at night while my wife watches her shows. Right now I'm forced to watch them with her and if I have to see one more episode of Jersey Shore or Real Housewives I'm going to hang my self in the closet!

I really think I'm a buyer at $600, only this NetFlix Snapdragon CPU issue is still on my mind.

Ya thats my question and Motorola, Nvidia, and google need to address this issue. Also since honeycomb has some drm software i wonder if this is enough to have netflix on the xoom

My job doesn't involve sitting in an office 5 days per week, so I am getting the 3G version, and upgrading to 4G as soon as it is available. I go to my office once or twice a week, and I'm on the road or in a client's office/home otherwise. Tethering is simply not an option, since I don't need to drain my battery more than I already do by talking an average of 60-90 minutes per day.

To anyone saying there will be any kind of Verizon subsidy below the $800 price tag, there won't be. Verizon markets their tablet data plans as "no obligation, month-to-month data plans starting at $20 for 1GB." They are not going to subsidize a no-contract product, and they are not going to sell the Wi-Fi only version.

I personally would be amazed if the Wi-Fi only version came the US before June, and I'm honestly thinking more like 3rd quarter (July-September). I could be wrong, but it's unlikely that Verizon's exclusivity for the XOOM would expire any sooner here in the US.

It's nice to finally here something. If the wi-fi model isn't too far from being released I might consider it. I don't know if I'll be able to wait though.

I don't think anyone in this thread is saying it will be.

What are the chances that they will release it the same day as the 3g version?

I suppose it's possible. All of the info, aside from what we've just heard on pricing in regards to WiFi only models has been sketchy at best. Most of it has been nothing but rumors, and the FCC appearance we saw a couple weeks ago. My assumption is we won't see the WiFi model right away, but that's a wild guess.
