I have an xfinity xfi modem/router. Using the ethernet I get a little over 900mbps down.

My Note 9 on wifi only gets about 70mbps. I know phone is capable of 300 mbps. I am in the room with the xfi box. Why am I only getting 74 mbps down? Tech got 285 mbps connecting with is iPhone

Connect to the router (with a PC is easier, but you can use the phone's web browser). The address should be 192.168.1.1. Look around in the WiFi area for encryption. Make sure it's AES, not TKIP or TKIP+AES. Some Samsungs have a problem with TKIP. (AES is about as secure as you need, unless you're passing military secrets to some hostile country.)

Are you using 5Ghz AC connection?

The xfi router has both bands and switches back and forth to each device based on range. I cannot separate the bands to two names so that I KNOW I am on 5ghz.

This is really a question only meant for someone who HAS Xfinity Xfi so is familiar with its operation.

Note9 is only capable of wifi speed up to 300 mbps and 2.4ghz band can go up to 450.

I would be happy to get 200mbps but I've never gotten speeds over 130 anywhere.

My comcast wifi maxes out at 855 5ghz and 144 2.4ghz. The 2.4 is stronger and more penetrating with my Note 9. With VZ LTE, I'm getting 50 to 120 speeds depending on time at day at home, tower 500 meters away.

That’s the problem. That implementation is garbage and completely against the standard afaik. I’m 99% sure it’s the device that does the steering and most don’t even do that correctly. Get rid of that garbage and get you a real modem and router. Trust me, it’s way better and will save you money and headache.

I had one. This one gets way better speed to ethernet. I may try to rename the 5ghz band

Are you using their xfi gateway or your own router?
Are you using Note 9?

I finally cleared cache and reset phone network settings.. That did the trick. Over 500mbps now.

My own router(s) Asus 1750's, connected to Comcast cable in neighborhood to house, 60-75 speed... upstairs and across the house to downstairs, connected by Ethernet cable and an older Motorola modem. Note 9, Verizon. Four channels, 2- 2.4 and 2- 5.0. House has clear, clean and stable wifi coverage.

Thanks! I finally got mine working properly. Had to clear phone cache and forget the network restart then hook up again. My last 2 wifi tests on the Note9 are over 500mbps.
