This finally worked for me!
Rooted MD4 Stock ODEXED with TWRP 2.5.0, but only after I changed SSID and manually changed LAN.
Rando, I have the same device configuration (rom etc) you do but I can't get this to work. Worked before the update to MD4 but not no mo... I can connect but no data passes over the connection.
Whats your config and what did you change your LAN settings to?
Thanks

I'm using the Wifi Tether apk: 3.2 beta2 mod5 TrevEmod. The settings I used are
Device profile Samsung GS3
Setup Method Auto
Send Netd Max Client CMD : Checked
WIfi encryption : Checked
Wifi Driver reload : Checked
Wifi Driver Reload 2: CHECKED
Access Control: Off
MSS Clamping and Routing Fix : On
Disable Wakelock: Checked

I renamed SSID to "Android"
On LAN, it was checked the second address down, and I just checked the first one for the heck of it (don't know if this is necessary)

Rando I am missing two of the features (or at least I can't find them)

Send Netd Max Client CMD : Checked
Wifi Driver Reload 2: CHECKED

Everything else you put I have is matching, both those two mentioned above I don't see anywhere.

This is a T-Mobile Galaxy S3 (non-LTE) that has been unlocked and is working on AT&T.

Please advise thanks!

SabreTester, Make sure you look in the "about" under settings and make sure you have the 3.2 beta2 Mod5 version of Trev E. But These settings work on the SPRINT S3. I have no idea if it will work on a T-Mobile or AT&T phone.

LOL. Lately it seems like everyone wants answers handed to them on a silver platter. Nobody bothers to search anymore, much less read the posts before asking questions that have been answered multiple times. Ok, start flaming me....

I think the aforementioned comment is mostly true. People are lazy. I personally have spent a countless amount of research time trying to "MAKE" my SG3 work with my supposed "Truly Unlimited" internet with Sprint. I can't see for **** that little screen on my phone. It's NOT about screwing Sprint out of bandwidth, but more about being able to actually use what I've PAID for more than once.
I realize that ranting about Sprint is a waste. IT seems that they could and should be SUED for offering 4G for how many years? First to 4G, and last to implement nationwide, all the while CHARGING for the smartphone data. Good luck getting to that data. Good luck if you happen to live in a 4G LTE area. I went from a phone (GS2) that worked perfectly with HotSpot Tethering. I doubt I used more than 2-3 GIGS a month and I don't think it's unreasonable to be able to use the promised UNLIMITED data on a device that can be seen, henve a screen that is big enough to actually use efficiently. BUt that''s me. Someone who on principle wants what I'm paying for.
Lately, I"ve been thinking I might run NETFLIX, NONSTOP on my phone, and simply go from movie to movie without watching, just to feel like I've gotten something for my money, because TRULY, Sprint has done a great job of "selling" something that simply does not deliver, AND at extra cost to suckers like me. "Truly Unlimited"???? Ya, unlimited headache and unlimited nothing for your money.
Rant OVER!

four, I sympathize, especially with the 4G service issues, but just to be clear you never have paid for unlimited data including tethering your laptop. That simply isn't, and never has been, a part of Sprint's (or any other major carrier's) "unlimited" plans. The contract you sign specifies what you paid for. If you didn't bother to read or understand it, that's hardly reason to complain about Sprint. Unlimited is clearly defined as using the data on your phone, and the contract clearly excludes tethering.

So the statement "It's NOT about screwing Sprint out of bandwidth, but more about being able to actually use what I've PAID for more than once." is simply inaccurate, as is "I don't think it's unreasonable to be able to use the promised UNLIMITED data". It's hardly Sprint's fault you can't see the tiny screen on the phone. They didn't force you to buy it; you made that choice on your own. They didn't promise you unlimited tethering; you didn't bother to understand what you were paying for.

Blame Sprint for not providing the 4G they "promised." Blame yourself for not understanding what you were buying. I find it ironic that you quote a post complaining that people don't want to read or research any more in support of your rant, when you failed to do exactly those things.

Believe me, Meyer,
I understand exactly what you are saying and the place in which you are saying it ( a place of I've never been screwed because you've read every word of every contract you've ever signed etc ), so either you are a perfect buyer of service/goods who has never felt short changed. IF so, good for you, but I doubt it.

That said: I've been a customer of Sprint for over TEN years. When they offered 4G, I was pretty fast to buy. My original phone (4G) was a WiMax 4G phone. At the time, I wasn't aware of Sprint's WiMax technology being "temporary". All I knew is that I was buying a "4G" phone. Sprint NEVER EVER told me they'd be dumping WiMax for LTE. They only tell you, "We have 4G", and I don't need to be an expert in 4G technology as an end-user. What I do need is to get what I'm promised and this goes to sales staff. As an end-user, I trust at the POINT OF SALE, what is being told me because at the POS, it's part of the question/answer aspect of making a purchase. By the way, I was told by my sales person at that POS, that my new SG3 was capable of Both technologies. NOT TRUE. My fault again for being dumb about the differences right? It's not uncommon to be swayed by sales staff as this is exactly what they are trained to do. When I made my first 4G phone purchase I lived in an area that was "slated for 4G service within 6 months of that purchase". I trusted the sales person and I was willing to wait. But guess what?, it's been nearly FOUR years and there is still no service in that area. People rely on truthtelling by sales staff, (ya bundle me up as one of the idiots of the world that does trust people), but in short I've been under-delivered on Sprint's service for a long time and dumb as it may be/sound, yes I'm stubbornly waiting to be satisfied, amongst other reasons that I don't need to explain...

As far as the comment about being able to see the screen, yes, it's true that Sprint isn't responsible for my lack of "accomodation" (look it up), but at the same time, when a phone barely works (due to poor bandwidth, and/or poor performance in an area they serve, then YES I have a beef, because I'm SICK of waiting for the phone to deliver, and when I does I'm impatient to have that data displayed, which is heavily map-based. Personally, (and I don't care if you agree or not), I can't see the problem with that "UNLIMITED" data being transferred to ONE DEVICE for those who'd rather peruse it on a larger display. I'm not talking about stealing it to share with multiple users/devices. Understand, this is MHO.

None of what I've complained about has anything to do with "bothering to understand" anything except what they promise at the POS which is effectively what I'm pissed about. But I'm sure your comment will be:, you should have not trusted the sales staff, and you are probably right. I just wonder how much would actually be sold in the world (of any product/service) if all people took that advice should you give it..

One thing I failed to mention in the longer post:
I, up until about a year ago did have a mobile hotspot at $60 a month (for several years I might add) which was unlimited data. They sold me a "4G" unit and I was adamant about NOT losing the grandfathering of my unlimited data, which is no longer sold. I was promised that by the sales person. I don't think I need to tell you that went away and I was never able to get it back.. I've never been a user of more than 2-3 gigs a month and so this is and has been a point of principle for me. In the end, I'm trying to get, if anything, a small part of what they promise to "deliver". whether I actually use it, ...or not.

I'm not going to try to respond to every point you've made, but I'll say a couple of things:

1. Sprint didn't tell you they were planning to dump WiMax because a that time they weren't planning to do so. I bought an Evo 4G back then, and I too was disappointed in Sprint's failure to fully build out that network. In the long run, though, the switch to LTE is a good thing, because it is a far better technology. And when I got my Sprint GS3, they made it very clear to me that LTE was still being rolled out and they couldn't guarantee when my area would get it.

2. No, I don't read every word of every contract, but I do research before I buy. It only takes one Google search, or a search of any Android forum, to find out that tethering isn't included in anyone's "unlimited" data plans. It's a common complaint. Again, irony: you quote a post that says "no one bothers to search anymore." If you root, which is a very simple procedure on this phone, you can get free tethering, btw.

3. If you're so disgusted with Sprint's service and terms, and the lack of a built out 4G network, and feel they've lied to you on multiple prior occasions, why in the world did you get a Sprint GS3? This phone is available on every major carrier, and many minor ones. AT&T and Verizon offer much more complete 4G networks. Of course, neither of them offer unlimited data including tethering either. But some time spent searching (there's that word again) might have found another carrier that does include tethering, or in any case better service and better terms for you.

Took a few tries to connect to the wifi but I got it working. Here's my setup:

Phone: Sprint S3, stock rom, rooted.

TetherApp: WifiTether-TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2 (Version 3.-beta2-modv5***Synergized***) downloaded from link in post #1 of this thread.

I kept the setting at their defaults except for the changes below:
-enabled BOTH Wifi-driver reload methods as suggested by another user
-Changed SSID name

Once I got it to connect I then enabled wifi-encryption and changed the passphrase. So far so good. Thanks to Skunkape60 and everyone who contributed their experiences.
