Will I get the Froyo EC05 Over The Air Update with my customized Epic?

If she bought this phone New at a sprint store they should be able to push the updates to you.

coolqf, u have PM.

We called sprint last night and we were told she is only one version behind (not accurate) and that there was no way they are capable of pushing updates to out of date devices, and when i suggested it he said that he wishes that were a possibility. At any rate, when we dial *2 it does prompt the user that a critical update is required and does not allow you do proceed with any such update. At least the device is now aware something is off. The Sprint Rep said doing a hard reset will work but he gave us special instructions involving ##(forgot the numbers)# and some other steps.
Will these do the trick? Seems that she is ok with doing a reset if it will fix the GPS error and the total inability to use Tango or other such applications to video chat with me.

UPDATE: G/f got impatient and decided to to as the sprint guy suggested... It did not work. still on dg17. Ugh.

Cabrone, I understand the situation you are in. Its frustrating. I do understand how you overlooked my suggestion earlier due to g/f wanting to retain her data. If she did go threw and do a factory reset and it still didn't work I would suggest using the method I mentioned earlier. It should most definately get your g/f's device on the most current version of Eclair 2.1 (DI18) and ready for Froyo whenever it drops...

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

Follow the steps for the first procedure : Restore to Eclair DI18 Using Windows
At this point you don't have anything else to loose because its clear Sprint is not going to help.

I thank you for your input. I suppose I can handle that. Is this safe to do from even dg17? Can the phone make the leap from such ancient update? Furthermore, will it be able to stay in the loop for the over the air updates?

It should make update to Eclair 2.1 (DI18). Basically in simple terms Odin the pgm you will be using will be completely formatting the entire phone (minus the sdcard) and placing an entirely new ROM (OS) on the phone. It will place whatever your providing by means of the files, in this case Eclair 2.1 (DI18) on the phone. Its the only known way to recover from being bricked and also returning to stock form if you root or install custom ROMs.

Update:

After checking into things further some people have claimed they can make the jump from earlier version to DI18 with Odin, then theres a good handful that say they can't. I found a page where you can get all the ".tar" files needed using Odin to make the update gradually from DG17 to DG27 to DI07 and finally to DI18..

Credit XDA developers, click here for all the needed files. Instructions at the top of page and you need to start at the bottom of the first post using the DG27 update file and move up the list.

I know it sounds like alot of work but its probably your only option since Sprint doesn't seem very willing to provide your g/f with any real solutions. The only other option I see is going into your local Sprint repair center and demand a replacement phone simply due to the reason of the extremely outdated OS and that Sprint has offered no help to get your device updated.

Thank you for your help. This indeed seems overwhelming for me as I am not very familiar with all of this. I'm not sure about best buy and their policy but that is where she got the phone and I was thinking worst I can do is brick the phone and get it replaced.

I understand. If you do want to give it a shot I have provided a detailed post for you to follow and hopefully make things seems a bit easier. I have faith you can do this if you have already come this far researching this issue.

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone) post #271

Good luck and I will understand whatever decision you choose.

I sent you a PM as the link to odin is broken and I have a lot more Qs for you.

Thanks again.

Question: Rooted Epic and OTA FroYo Update

So I have a rooted Epic, which I rooted using this method.

My question is will I be ok accepting the OTA update to 2.2 due on the 21st? I'm only rooted, and not running any custom ROMs. I'll add a screenshot of my phone info:

I was wondering what consitutes "leaked/unofficial (OS) software installed". What are some examples of these apps? Would AdFree fall into this category?

I'm not positive on the app, but as a precaution you could always uninstall the apps in question to make sure the update goes threw without a hitch and then reinstall them once we have root access again on the official Froyo. Worst case you uninstall late in the day on Sunday any apps in question and then you get updated to official Froyo. I wouldn't be surprised by the end of Monday or sooner we will have root access again.

24 hrs or so without a few apps in question wouldn't break the bank now would it?

OP has been updated for better clarification.

Currently have leaked DK28 on non-rooted Epic. Can I just download the DK13 and install by using the update.zip method or do I need to ODIN back to stock??
Wifes phone, I run on a rooted EVO

I would like to know this also and would prefer simple yes or no answer. I've seen in other forums where others have asked this and they get answers talking about rooting, updating OTA, etc.

I wanted to share that after much consideration I decided to use Odin and skip right to di18, which as of right now seems to be ayyokay. So, in other words, I was able to safely flash from DG17 (skipping DG27 & DI07) to DI18 with no obvious issues at all, but can anyone confirm that this worked well and has no issues?

ok, this may be a really stupid question, i had my phone rooted. Now when i reboot my phone is still shows clockwork recovery, and it wont let me do the manual update. Anyone have any idea what i am doing wrong or anything i can do to get it back? *edit* --sorry, if i wasnt clear, phone is no longer rooted--

Hello I am running dk28 and I am not rooted. I just wanted to make sure what I am about to do is the best and easiest way for me and what I want. I am suppose to use odin to revert backwards and then download the zip file and then boot to recovery same way I got dk28 right? Let me know please cause I am all dk28ed out. lol Thanks
