AC Question

Is the LG G5 water resistant and if it is, how water resistant will it be?

The LG G5 is one of the only phones that you has an external expandable memory slot and a replaceable battery. Because of this, the phone is not water resistant. The other plus is that the G5 also is able to accept LG expansion modules, like the Cam Plus and the HiFi Plus. On the other side, the Samsung Galaxy 6 & 7 are water resistant, but you cannot replace the battery, when it starts going bad in a year. You have to take it into repair shop and have it done, for a cost. I have read on some technical forums that with the Galaxy S7, since it is wrapped in glass, a tech cannot access the inside of the phone without breaking the glass, so that is something to consider.

The way I see it, it is more important for me to be able to replace the battery than to have the actual phone be water resistant. I can buy a water resistant case for the G5 and have the best of both worlds, if I need it. JMHO

The Galaxy S5 had an SD card and replaceable battery and was still water-resistant. Just because LG hasn't made the G5 water-resistant doesn't mean they couldn't. I will never buy another phone that isn't water-resistant after going from the S5 to the G4 to the S7 edge.

If you really need your phone to be water resistant...you should go for a casing that's water resistant. Form factor really shouldn't be a buying factor since you can always buy a case to cater to those needs.

The great thing about the S7/S7 edge is that you don't need to spend an extra $80 for a waterproof case. That's something to consider if you need water resistance.

You may not have to buy a case for waterproofing but you are spending more money ($40 for S7, $150 for edge) for the phone. So extra money is being spent somewhere.

Price point arguments are not simple due to market flactuations. There is way too many factors that come into play. We all don't know how much the user is willing to spend on a phone, and it all depends on where & how you get the casing for the phone. The price point is always high when a phone is released & later on drops down to market average.

In general external properties of a phone can be modified to suit your needs. You can make your phone look from anything like rubber glove to something extreme like a water proof butterfly. On the other hand, intrinsic properties such as hardware & some features can not be easily replaced.

Those special features are the ones that set the G5 apart from the S7 & other phones on the market. Even the basic UI on the G5 is much faster & much more responsive than the S7. I could go on & list everything, but the major point here.....the overall package from the G5 is so much better than anything else on the market. You should never let one or two minor features sway your vote without looking at the bigger picture.

If you can afford it, go with the best phone that took the crown at the MWC 2016 awards...the G5.

I'm sorry but the screen alone (meaning the edge feature) makes it a better phone than this phone. Plus a bigger battery. I could care less about a replaceable battery having owned so many phones with and without one. They still run fine after a year plus I use so many phones I don't run down any of them. The thing I hate about this phone is its nothing special that stands out. Modules? Come on. Maybe it's just me buying most phones each year but this will be easy to buy at anytime since the starting retail price is a little north of $600 lol. I want to like it but it's something I can get as a gift from someone for xmas or something. I just purchased the s7 edge and can't wait for the note 6 and iPhone 7. This phone can't contend with either. Not even my v10.

Wow! Why do you need all those phones? And why are you wasting time on a lg g5 forum when you obviously dislike the phone?

Samsung's curved solution to display is a pure gimmick. That edge display has no practical applications whatsoever. They tried the same approach with the TVs, and sadly, very few liked it. The modular design is a functional paradigm shift, it's hard to see the full potential with only a few modules available. The paradigm gives hardware engineers a platform to come up with something special, and only time will tell the true potential of this venture.
As for battery life, with that small of a margin in amperage, bigger is not always better. Besides, the battery life discussion is a little too early to call considering the G5 is faster & much more energy effiecient than what most people would expect. An average user doesn't really need to have their phone to last for days at a time. Personally, battery life is not even a factor for me. The phone charges so fast once it's plugged in (at home, in the car, & the office), and if I ever have to go off grid to a camping trip, I would just carry an external usb charger or the provided extra free battery that came with the phone.

I wasn't necessarily stating the edge was more useful but more so how it makes the phone look. And it looks a lot better than the G5. I'm sick and tired of phones having (what's the term I'm trying to use here? lol) ...plus it's also too early to say that the G5 is faster and more energy efficient. I'll wait until I get mine down the line. lol. As for the modules that's just more ways for them to get you to spend money on crap that could have already been made into the phone. Better camera with an extra piece? Better audio? Please. Htc didn't have to do that crap with the m8 I love. They want to make me like this phone ? Include all those extra pieces with the phone as add ons.

Same reason my family and I need more than normal unlimited data plans with Verizon att T-Mobile and sprint. Because we can afford them lol. And same reason so many people come on any forum and state their dislike with the phone of topic. Duh. Because I can.

Haha, glad you are doing so well for yourself, must admit I would probably do the same!

I agree, the process of picking out a phone is an entirely subjective matter. Then again picking a phone based on the looks alone seems a little shallow. How's that any different than a couple of adolescent kids sparring at school about who's got the best GF based on physical looks alone? Even though both phones share some similiar hardware features, the UI for the G5 is indeed much more responsive & fast. I have access to both phones at home, and other users who have switched over can attest to my claim as well.

I also still have my old V10, and sure the form factor looks great & even better than the G5, but a good premium case can easily fix that. Even the stock audio (besides the external speaker) is miles ahead of the M8.

Quality water resistant cases are available for some but not all phones.

Some guy on youtube soaked his G5 in a small bucket of water for 2 minutes. He took the phone out, dryed it off, and his phone was fine other than muffled sound from the speaker.

What is a more than normal unlimited data plan?
