Will the Nexus 6P work on Verizon?

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

My MotoX'14 doesn't support advanced calling, so it currently cannot be enabled on the Verizon website. If I switched the sim to the 6p will the Verizon website then allow me to enable advanced calling? Can anyone who has done the Moto X to 6P switch confirm this? TIA

Yes. I got my 6P last night, took the SIM card out of my MotoX 2014 and everything worked fine. Logged in on Verizon this morning and could turn on Advanced Calling 1.0.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

If you get a phone (like the 6P) that can handle VoLTE you can then add the Advanced Calling to your VZW account. If not you could contact them to fix the issue.

Ultimately I think that's right when their systems fully recognize the 6p as an authorized device. Not sure exactly where that stands right now, so I was just wondering if somebody in a similar situation had any problems getting this activated.

That's why I didn't try last night plus I was busy setting everything else up on my phone. When I logged in at 8 AM this morning, it was showing my Huawei device and I was able to turn Advanced Calling 1.0 on.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

So a person with 6P (funny how many new phones have a 6 in them - weird) goes into my verizon app the phone shown for his account will say Nexus 6P? Just curious. I know when I have previously done sim swaps my verizon mobile app lists the new type of phone right away. It always struck me as a cool thing.

I think it'll say whatever the SKU is for the Nexus 6P.

SKU for the Moto X Pure Edition is XT1575. In the Verizon app (and overall in the account via web), it shows I'm using a "MOTOROLA - XT1575".

FOR THOSE WHO NEED A NEW SIM CARD- UPDATE---

Just went over to a corporate VZ store. The guy went popped in a new card and registered it through his system- but it didn't work- phone is still not in the system. He was at a complete loss and his supervisor suggested my rep call into tech support himself. Long story short the vz tech rep was able to behind the scenes, over the phone, activate the sim card by itself, regardless of the phone, and then link it to the phone as if you were swapping an existing card from another phone. I heard some reps being willing to activate the card on another phone, but this scenario avoids all that.

-Bottomline- it works great-- just thought this other option might be helpful if you get stuck in the store. GL

Those of you who have used unlocked devices on Verizon, can you answer these questions... if you can answer these if they work on the 6P that would be even better.

Is there a way to get Verizon's visual Voice Mail on an unlocked phone... either Verizon's Voice Mail app or some other app that can access your voicemails? I'm not talking about the voice-to-text feature... I just talking about viewing the list of your voicemails and playing them back within the app.

Can you download the My Verizon app from the play store and use it on unlocked phones?

Can you turn on a hotspot with unlocked phones on Verizon?

Sim from my iPhone 6 plus worked like a charm in the 6P. Two issues that I am working on fixing:

1. There is a horrible hiss on every call but more pronounced when speaking to someone not using HD voice.
2. Can't get google voice to take over my voicemail. Since I am not even receiving a vm indicator, GV seems like the best alternative

If you're not currently a GV user, I'd hesitate to start now. Google hasn't done much development on GV in a long time. I doubt they'll cancel the service, but I wouldn't count on them continuing to develop it either. If they ever do merge it into Hangouts, I suspect some features will be dropped.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

I just ordered it tonight, im coming from an HTC M8 which i believe uses the Nano Sim so i should be good just put that sim in the 6P and im good right?

You have to go to GV from your computer, on your account page, and activate Voicemail. It will have you type in a * and a long string of numbers and hit call. Then it will be activated. Took me a little bit to figure this out.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

Open dialer then type: *#*#4636#*#*.*
Go to Phone Settings in the window that opens
See if VOLTE Provisioning Flag is turned on, if not click it and turn it on.

You will need to have VOLTE activated on your account, go to Verizon wireless My Account and then find that instructions to do that.

I had a Droid Turbo, got a 6P, and I had VOLTE turned on my sim before, swapping it I to the 6P was flawless.

Everything worked, even the carrier name, radio signal, signal strength is actually better on the 6P than the Turbo in the same location.

I can't recommend this phone enough, I was hesitant given vzw and who knows what they may do in the future, but don't hesitate, if you have a sim already go get it.

Also FYI ... I had a legacy subsidized phone family plan, I called vzw to tell them I'm not planning on cashing in on a subsidized phone but the other three members on the plan are, they credited me $25/mo now since I'm due for an upgrade but not getting one.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

I currently use GV. I am also wondering what Google will do in the future. GV had a lot of promise

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

On Verizon and just popped my sim out of my S6 and put it in the 6p. No issues

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

GV has been integrated into Hangouts. There's a thread here:
what exactly is Google Hangout?

If you don't know what you're talking about, generally it's best to avoid posting.

Some features have been moved into Hangouts but many features are not integrated and still require you to use the GV app and the voice.google.com website. I suspect one day GV will be killed and replaced by Hangouts, but who knows.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

And there are features like MMS and VOIP that you can only get by migrating your GV number to Hangouts.

Thanks for the advice.

That's kind of bogus. Once vzw recognizes phone won't those features become available? I absolutely hate GV. Had a heck of a time getting rid of it. At one time you couldn't erase your number without adding a replacement number. I spent weeks getting it straightened out. Google could not understand why I no longer wanted any phone number associated with my account. I believe it is no problem removing a number now but I do not trust them.
