Will the Nexus 6P work on Verizon?

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

Visual Voicemail does not work on the Verizon network as the phone has not been 'certified'. Has anyone on Verizon gotten text messages from them in ASCII characters?

FWIW, I had Visual Voice Mail working on my Moto X Pure Edition before it came out that Verizon had them "all on their system".

Re: 6P for Verizon?

I'm not expecting Verizon wireless to support visual voicemail built into the marshmallow dialer until the newer Samsung phones gets marshmallow.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

You don't have to go to the Verizon store since the iPhone 5 uses a nano SIM.

If you have iMessage active, make sure you deactivate it first. Then just swap the SIM into the Nexus 6P.

What would happen if iMessage wasnt deactivated first?

I used a new NanoSIM in a demo iPhone I had....kept the SIM, returned the phone but cant remember if I had deactivated iMessage. Plan on using that SIM for my N6P.

it just takes awhile for you to get your text from iphone users. Your number is still registered to imessage. so it still thinks its in iphone land. You can still text people with iphones but you wont get them until your number is deactivated from imessage.

Hmm, thanks.

Can it be deactivated from anywhere else? Or do I need to pop the SIM back into an iPhone and deactivate from there?

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

A friend mentioned that he has some SIM adapters laying around, and suggested I could just take my current micro-SIM G2 to a Verizon store, explain that I'm waiting for my 6P to ship, and ask them to activate a nano-SIM for me now, then just use that in my current phone with the adapter until my 6P arrives. That way there's no issue with cutting it down or using my husband's iPhone to activate the new SIM card. Why didn't I think of that? ;) As currently scheduled, the Nexus should arrive only a day or two before I leave on vacation, and I probably wouldn't have time to hassle with the whole SIM card thing at that point, so this seems like a better plan. Then I could play with the phone while I'm away cuz, to me, that counts as relaxing. :) Anyone see any faults in this plan?

You won't get message from iPhone/iMessage users.

Those of you who have used unlocked devices on Verizon, can you answer these questions... if you can answer these if they work on the 6P that would be even better.

Is there a way to get Verizon's visual Voice Mail on an unlocked phone... either Verizon's Voice Mail app or some other app that can access your voicemails? I'm not talking about the voice-to-text feature... I just talking about viewing the list of your voicemails and playing them back within the app.

Can you download the My Verizon app from the play store and use it on unlocked phones?

Can you turn on a hotspot with unlocked phones on Verizon?

I don't have a 6P yet but I expect things will work pretty much like they do now on my N6. When I bought my N6 from Moto, I was already on a month-to-month contract with VZW because I didn't want to give up my unlimited data (still don't).

So answering your questions in order:

1. VZW visual vm will work. Just make sure it's updated in your account.

2. Yes you can download the My Verizon app and it works fine.

3. Because I have unlimited data, I would have to pay a fee to create a hotspot. However, because I am rooted, there is a work around for this where I can create one. So if you have a tiered data plan, you shouldn't have any problems turning on a hotspot.

I have a 6p on Verizon.

Visual VM works fine, just download the app from the play store and make sure you have the option activated on your account.

My Verizon works great.

I, for some odd reason, had to set up my voicemail greeting again before calls would come in. Not sure what's up with that.

I'm on Verizon but I'm on a corp. account so I can't answer many of the add-on features questions. What I CAN say is that I popped my SIM in and the phone has worked fine. Hotspot works (one of the few features the company adds), I can't speak to Visual VM or VoLTE/Advanced calling as I'll need to ask the company to flip the switch (for VoLTE anyway since it's free).

Yes. And no other indicator that I have a voicemail waiting.

Re: 6P for Verizon?

Walked right into the Verizon store and told the. I needed a nano sim for my 6p. They put the sim in and activated it on my 6p. No problems at all and no charge. There is no need to trim a sim down or activate with another phone. Just bring your 6p with you to Verizon.

Nope, that will work fine.

Re: 6P for Verizon?

Exactly what happened to me -- took it in, new sim card used, no charge at Verizon corporate store.

Awesome, sounds like these three things will work just fine, that's great to hear.

Thanks for your replies!

I wasn't expecting that I was going to order the 6P because I love my Note 4 and all of it's features, well I loved it on 4.4 at least. But I've gotten so fed up with 5.0.1 on my Note 4... I've done a factory reset twice now since the update and every time it runs great for about a month then the phone starts to run like ****... and I'm fed up with Verizon's utter lack of promptness with their updates. Then there's Samsung and how much I'm pissed at them for ruining the Note line for me with the Note 5.

So what do I do... say "F" both Verizon and Samsung and get a Nexus 6P to use on Verizon. Smooth fast running Nexus phone with timely updates straight from Google running on Verizon which has the best coverage for me. I'm going to miss those Note 4 features but hopefully this tradeoff is worth it.

Re: 6P for Verizon?

now that i'm only going to be using nexus or motorola pure phones thank goodness i have my nano sim and a micro sim adapter if ever needed. i'll miss my visual voicemail with the nexus 6p but i'm sure once the samsung s6 and note5 get marshmellow with vv being built into the dialer verizon will finally support it.

Re: 6P for Verizon?

Until they get visual voicemail working on 6.0 is there a way to get VM notifications the 6P? Kind of a problem if you never know whether there's a VM waiting for retrieval on the VZW server.

Re: 6P for Verizon?

Just got my N6P (yay!) and all looks good (yay!) but when I put my formerly-in-an-iPhone nanoSim into the N6P, it gives me the exclamation point over LTE and I cant make calls.

Trying to activate on the web by switching old device to new device ID gives me "We cannot process your request at this time".

Any ideas? Ive also tried the link earlier in this thread for setting up a new device but I get an error saying it cannot be activated on the Verizon network.

Do i need a new nanoSim and start from scratch?

Thanks.
