Will the Nexus 6P work on Verizon?

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

For what it's worth, Friday, I chatted/messaged with Verizon and told them I was getting the Nexus 6P and asked if they could send me a nano sim for it. (Currently have an S5)

She said I could just go into the store and grab one (it's obviously quicker and you don't have to wait ~5 days for shipping) but I asked if I could get one shipped as it's easier and I'm in no hurry. She obliged no problem and I got a tracking email hours later. Once it arrives, I just pop it into the 6P and activate it online or call them.

And FYI, I chatted with an employee right before that and asked for a nano sim and she said I had to call the 800 number and asked right away if there was anything else I needed so it's hit or miss.

Just make sure that it doesn't take away your unlimited, if you're still on unlimited. I picked up a nano sim last year when I went to the iPhone 6, and I've just been using an adaptor since for a phone that used a micro sim.

FOR THOSE WHO NEED A NEW SIM CARD- UPDATE---

Just went over to a corporate VZ store. The guy went popped in a new card and registered it through his system- but it didn't work- phone is still not in the system. He was at a complete loss and his supervisor suggested my rep call into tech support himself. Long story short the vz tech rep was able to behind the scenes, over the phone, activate the sim card by itself, regardless of the phone, and then link it to the phone as if you were swapping an existing card from another phone. I heard some reps being willing to activate the card on another phone, but this scenario avoids all that.

-Bottomline- it works great-- just thought this other option might be helpful if you get stuck in the store. GL

The IMEI for the phone is definitely in their system. I went yesterday and it took all of 2 minutes for him to pop it into my phone and I was good to go.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

Open dialer then type: *#*#4636#*#*.*
Go to Phone Settings in the window that opens
See if VOLTE Provisioning Flag is turned on, if not click it and turn it on.

You will need to have VOLTE activated on your account, go to Verizon wireless My Account and then find that instructions to do that.

I had a Droid Turbo, got a 6P, and I had VOLTE turned on my sim before, swapping it I to the 6P was flawless.

Everything worked, even the carrier name, radio signal, signal strength is actually better on the 6P than the Turbo in the same location.

I can't recommend this phone enough, I was hesitant given vzw and who knows what they may do in the future, but don't hesitate, if you have a sim already go get it.

Also FYI ... I had a legacy subsidized phone family plan, I called vzw to tell them I'm not planning on cashing in on a subsidized phone but the other three members on the plan are, they credited me $25/mo now since I'm due for an upgrade but not getting one.

My VOLTE is on but there's other options there.
Turn on IMS registration required. ?
Turn on SMS over IMS. ?
Turn on LTE RAM DUMP. ?

What's all this about?

Just wondering whether anyone else has had this experience. Would make life with the new device a lot simpler. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but should this also mean VZW's Visual Voicemail would work, as well?

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

As someone who works at Verizon, yes, the IMEI does scan in our system. The issue after that is all Verizon's system where it doesn't recognize activating a new SIM with the phone and that's where having an already active nano SIM helps.

I've done like a bunch of 5X's already.

So you're saying it's in the system, but it's not really in the system completely. Great, thanks for clarifying

Ah, thank you for the information. Sounds like it might still make more sense to use my husband's iPhone for purposes of having the nano Sim activated, and then swapping it into the new 6P.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

here's a thought for those of you on a shared data plan, it costs $40 to connect a smart phone, but if you're on they plan where you pay off the phone over 2 years, it's only $20. What you could do is buy the cheapest smart phone the sell for $5/month and use your 6P in it's place and you're paying $25/month for 2 years, then $20/month after that vs $40/month and you have a phone you can sell.

or at least that's my plan when I'm eligible in a few months assuming it works.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

So, I will be coming from a Verizon Galaxy S3, this is going to be a MASSIVE upgrade (in terms of every single spec imaginable...).

Reading through, I should just take in the 6p in store, and they should be able to just beep boop in a new nano sim and I'm good to go?

Worst case scenario, they put a new sim in my wife's iphone 6, they activate, and then swap it to my nexus?

I imagine it should be that simple, yes.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

Here's one from left field:

I'm coming from a Droid Maxx (love the phone) and will have the 6p in my hands tomorrow if shipping info is correct. My problem is that it was shattered (don't ask) and non-functional, so the folks at Verizon hooked me up to my wife's old iPhone 5 so I could take work calls until the new phone comes in. I'm assuming I need to take it into the store, have them swap the nano sim from the Maxx (hidden in the volume rocker) and put it into the 6p and activate?

I'd like to skip the whole Verizon visit, but think I have to since I'm bridging with the iPhone.

Thoughts?

Visual Voicemail does not work on the Verizon network as the phone has not been 'certified'. Has anyone on Verizon gotten text messages from them in ASCII characters?

You don't have to go to the Verizon store since the iPhone 5 uses a nano SIM.

If you have iMessage active, make sure you deactivate it first. Then just swap the SIM into the Nexus 6P.

Re: 6P for Verizon ?

That's great....I was going to use the nano from the Maxx since the 5 is going to my daughter for X-mas (her first phone), but maybe I'll just swap sims down the line and go from there.

Since it was just for a short time, I haven't even taken off my wife's iTunes account, which is wreaking all sorts of havoc. She can see my texts, I can see her's, stuff is showing up on multiple devices, etc. etc. etc. (I purchased a Note 5 for her a while back and have her using Hangouts. She's a happy camper.)

Question tho -- how do you deactivate iMessage?

Re: 6P for Verizon?

On the iPhone, you can switch off iMessage from Settings -> Messages -> Toggle off iMessage

That disappointing, but not all that surprising. Thanks for confirming.

Re: 6P for Verizon?

Does vzw only certify phones they sell or is it just a matter of time to certify it?

Matter of time if its like the Moto XPE. I think it took a week or so to get it straightened out.

Verizon certifies the phone is compliant with all aspects of their operating network. Takes a few months. Spoke to a Tier2 TSA who borrowed one from his boss while on the call with me. His drool came thru my phone.
