Will Verizon really open its Droid?

Maybe Verizon has run into a corporation (Google) with enough clout to insist on how their OS will be used.

Verizon is NOTORIOUS for locking down their devices...

the Droid, and Droid Eris-and apparently any other DROID ____ phones will, infact, be 1000% open. As of right now, the only "Verizon" software you can get on the droid (besides the obligitory text messaging bundles of course)..is Visual Voice Mail. No VZNav, no tethering, no nothing. 100% open android.

VZW finally learned to smarten the hell up.

wow a thousand percent open?! sign me up!

it seems like vzw will have a tab in the marketplace for their apps so you can download them if you choose to. pretty similar to how they've treated blackberry's aside from on those they would push the download links to your device and you would either hide them so you couldn't see them, or click on them to download the actual app.

what obligatory text bundles are you talking about btw? the only thing i've recalled being mandatory is the data plan

well its pretty cool verizon is opening up, its good for business people love to have their identity on the cellular devices if you can understand what im trying to say, make the phone theirs.
