Will we ever get Oreo?

Re: Oreo Update

I am doing everything using all the links from there first post article.

Hmmm. I would install the usb drivers if you haven't.
I believe they are installed automatically with Smart Switch.
I would install Smart Switch anyways, so you can back everything up before flashing.

I have smart switch installed and I installed the Samsung drivers from the website. Is there a desktop smart switch I should be using even if I don't back up things (I save everything manually on my of every week)

Re: Oreo Update

Can anyone provide to me as to why Oreo is such a big update? So far, the phone has been running great. I use Nova and many features talked about, already included with the Nova Launcher. Just curious to see what difference I will notice if any.
Just because there are people who just like to get updates. No, you don't need Oreo, phone runs like a champ as is today.

It'll come out officially sooner than later. Just enjoy your phone.

The reality is the phone runs like a champ with Oreo.

Re: Oreo Update

I had an older android phone from 2017 that only had android l. I had a few apps I wanted to run that were N only. I don't remember what it was. But stuff like that holds old phones back. And little things like emojis and other small tidbits. In my opinion android should be like windows and be installable on any hardware, but then the couldn't do the two years only before you buy a new phone system they are doing.

The other issue is that, unlike Apple, updates go through the carriers for testing and get pushed out by them. As phones get older, carriers stop bothering to waste resources testing updates for older phones. They concentrate on the most current models first, then the older ones.

I did this successfully, using the USB 2.0 port from MOBO (not HUB) and run ODIN as admin.

MY motherboard doesnt have USB 2, all 3 and 3.1. (Bought it last years with the best Ryzen CPU and 32GB of 3200 ram before prices spiked.

I'm just guessing my phone can't communicate with my PC for some reason. It fails in every port, with admin privileges. Both versions of ODIN. Two different downloads of the BRA8 files. Turned off my passwords too.

I'm going to try a completely different PC now.

Re: Oreo Update

Might be working now. Went from my 2017 build to my 2006 HTPC and it works out there. So it must have been the lack of USB 2.0 ports on my pc.

Re: Oreo Update

Do you need a computer to update it? Or can I just do it through my phone with my SD card

You need a pc to install the ODIN files.

double tapping lock screen notifications doesnt open to that notification anymore. Is there any way to get this back?

Hasn't it been tap then swipe to go to the notification's app for a while now on Samsung phones? I remember it being like that on my S8+ and S8 Active, and I think even on my S7.

I have only owner the S1 and the Note 8 and on the N8 I have always been able to double tap the notification to open it... I think. now I can;t actually remember. But, my motor skills always touble tap it, so I know that's how it is :)

Re: Oreo Update

So.... for those of you that did the install... what's the BIG difference with Oreo on the Samsung Note 8? I mean the things that stand out. Not little tweaks. Although, little tweaks are nice.

Re: Oreo Update

Nothing. It's all minor, and mostly backend optimizing.

Darn. Having just spent a few days with the Pixel, I was hoping to see its cool picture-in-picture floating video and little phone call "chat heads" when you leave the phone screen. I guess I have to find some apps for those.

It looks almost exactly like 7.1.1 due to Samsung Touchwiz-ifying it, lol.
I have no idea about the phone chat heads, as I rarely make calls.
