Will we ever get Oreo?

Re: Note 8 Oreo?

Exactly. I'm going to postpone it for several weeks, most likely. I never take a major update as soon as it's released.

Isn't this about the 10th or 12th Oreo on N8 thread? Search function must be busted.

Yeah, but the other really popular one on here, most of the guys are talking about sideloading Oreo, so what good does that really do towards answering this particular question? I sideloaded Nougat on my S7 Active and loved having it a couple of months early... but then it took me about a day and a half to get it back to stock Marshmallow so I could accept my real AT&T Nougat OTA when it finally came out. No thanks... been there, done that! :-( Too old for dat chitt...

Re: Note 8 Oreo?

I see a lot of clamoring for Oreo on the Note 8. I hope once it's released it doesn't bork everyone's phones. I think even when it is released I'll wait and let others be the guinea pigs. Right now my Note 8s work as advertised so no complaints.

I am running the build that was leaked a few days ago with March security patch, and I can honestly say that it's working like a champ. I can't judge battery life yet, but its smooth, the app shortcuts are fantastic.

That's good to know. I know it's excellenté on my Mate 9.

Re: Note 8 Oreo?

My one question is what are we Note8 users missing out on in Oreo?

I had a Mate10 Pro with Oreo for review and didn't see anything we are missing in Nougat on the Note8.

Re: Oreo Update

If I were to do this would I simply be able to FDR back to 7.1.1 if anything happens?

Also what would I do if there are changes to this by ATT and the version they release is different then what is in this file?

We'll get it 1 month before Android P is released for the pixels lol. Better late than never! At least we don't get cutting edge updates with several flaws and issues like my iPhone gets. I'll take the security updates every 2 months and a stable build os update annually over continuously broken updates. Which is what we'd get if it was rushed.

I just like that it's update and I don't have to worry about that stupid (this app isnt compatible with your version of android crap) I had a MM device and as soon as N rolled out, some apps didn't work anymore.

Re: Note 8 Oreo?

I notice the changes in switching between S8+ with final build Oreo, then using Note with 7.1.1. But just wait when Android and all apps are 64-bit.

You mean as soon as N rolled out developers updated their apps making them incompatible with M??? What developers did that? What apps? Somehow I am not the least bit worried about that happening in the time before Oreo comes to Note 8.

Re: Note 8 Oreo?

Due in part I’m sure to the 7 builds of Oreo beta and lessons learned.

Just finished reading where many apps on iOS have not yet come out to be compatible with the iPhone X.

Re: Note 8 Oreo?

Every app I am using works with Oreo
But he wasn't talking about apps not working on the new OS, he said apps stopped working on the old OS "as soon as N came out". I find that hard to believe.

Would have tried it by now but my computer is temporarily dead..ugh. Can't try it out until she's fixed.

I cant get it to load right in Odin. I extract the files and they are still rar files. They end with .tar.rar and will not work. If I remove the .rar Odin hangs on File Analysis. I think the AP file is supposed to end in MD5 and if I add that is fails hash check. Anyone have any idea what is wrong and how to fix it?

Wow. I love all the optimistic (read that with sarcasm) comments. Will probably get it late March/early April depending on carrier. I'm on Verizon so I'm thinking last week of March first week of April. Verizon's been pretty good with getting updates out lately.

I am not sure we'd miss much. In fact, I was always under the impression that phones work best with the OS they come with. Updated OSes are often not tuned as well for the device as the original.

I just want them to get it right. That's more important than getting it to me soon.
