My "Sorry Old Phone" is still a samsung SCH-a670 flip-phone. Ive had this thing for years and years and never really thought I needed anything more, as its been a work horse. However...after recent events, Ive decided its probably time to get something new.... I was out at the bar with some friends and noticed that the phone hinge was a little loose. After jiggling it back and forth a bit in order to gauge whether or not this was going to be a problem, a small piece of plastic popped off onto the bar and the hinge came free!! Now I was really in trouble. That appeared the be the final straw, as by the end of the night, the left hinge couldn't make up for the absence of the right, and it too popped right off.
At this point the two halves of the phone were held together by a tiny piece of ribbon cable. I thought this would hold...but after years of flipping open and closed, this thing ripped almost immediately. "Thats it!" I thought.. "my phone has finally kicked it!!". But a few hours later, as I was finally coming to terms with my phone's untimely doom, I felt a vibrate in my pocket (where the two phone halves were stored until I could properly dispose of them). My phone was ringing!! I quickly discovered that the bottom half of the phone (with the keypad) was still functional! The ringer (which was part of the top half) was gone, but thankfully I had left my phone on vibrate before it broke and I could still make and receive calls with the lower half. The only problem now was that the earpiece was located on the top (now missing) half of the phone, so I was unable to hear the person on the other end, while they could hear me (which we confirmed by calling across the bar). Again, it appeared that luck was with me, as the headset jack was located on the bottom half of the phone and I was able to plug a headset in here and continue to use this tiny little phone that could.
Because the phone supports voice dialing based on your address book I can still dial people numbers through the headset, I just can't see who is actually calling me. All of this went down about 2 weeks ago, and I've been using this mutant half-phone while I shop for new phones. I heard about the Incredible and decided I would wait for its release. However, the wait has been arduous. The phone seems to randomly dial people in my address book all the time when its in my pocket, and everytime I want to make/answer a call I have to unwind the long headset wire, then re-wrap it when finished. Is this a sorry phone story deserving of a new Droid Incredible replacement? I'll let you be the judge....
