Wipe All Data in Recovery Mode, Is It Safe?

so I got paranoid with my android phone. I am afraid it might had a malware at one point. Instead of using 'factory reset', I decided to go to Recovery Mode and chose 'Wipe All Data' instead. Now it seems my phone is OK again but I wonder if there's any slight chance that the malware 'survived' the 'Wipe All Data' process? I heard some android malwares could be very persistent and reinstall themselves or something like that

If the virus installed into the system partition, it would survive, but that would be unusual.
