Wireless Charging Issues (S6 Edge + New Charger)

The issue I had was as soon as the screen went to sleep the charging would pause. I'm using the S6 Edge and the Samsung QI Wireless Charger. I tried a plug with a higher amp output, I tried the official Samsung lead that came with the phone, I even tried putting a folded piece of paper between the phone and the charger (I read somebodies post on this thread about magnetic fields!). I found that if I changed my lock screen to no lock then it would charge fine - this however opened up the security threat of somebody picking up your phone and browsing through.

I solved my problem by going to 'Settings' - 'About Device' tap 'Build Number' 7 times to enable 'Developer mode'.

Go back to 'Settings' above 'About Device' will now be 'Developer Options' enable 'Stay Awake' this will allow you to charge the phone wirelessly and also have the screen locked but the screen doesn't enter sleep mode allowing the charger to continue charging.

Fingers crossed I've not had a problem since.

What I've discovered is that battery monitoring apps are the cause the charging disruption. Not sure why, but when I uninstalled any battery monitoring apps, wireless charger worked flawlessly.

S6E does have issues with wireless charging. I raised this issue quite a number of times with Samsung Support but was not convince with their replies. I have read many issues from all over with S6E. I tried Samsung charger, Nokia DT, PowerSquare's TANGO ,etc. I faced similar issues wrt charging with all wireless chargers.

I was having this issue and this was the first thread I found. I registered so that I can make this post.

I have 4 wireless chargers, all of different brands, and multiple wall chargers and USB cables.

The Samsung charger was the only one that stopped charging after a few minutes, the rest worked fine. It doesn't matter which combination of wall chargers or cables I used, it still happened.

I can not update my software because I am on a custom rom which is on an older build and I don't want to give that up. So that was out. For people in this situation there is a fix and it's mentioned in this thread.

Enabling daydream is the trick. Enable any of the daydream options and BE SURE to hit more and enable daydream to come on during charging, not just when docked.

When you place the phone on the charger, your daydream will start. Hit the power button and the screen will go to sleep but the phone will stay charging until it's full. Annoying, but it's better than nothing if you can't update the software.

This is the only solution that works.

Mine doesn't work at all, it lights up green when plugged in, but doesn't charge at all. My phone doesn't even recognise it.

Using daydream is not the right way to fix the issue, the charger will still be going on and off, eventually damaging the battery.
What you should check:
Wallplug voltage/amp same as the pad
usb cable faulty/ bad quality
charging in safe mode, in case it's due to a third party app
removing phone case
Magnetic interference (speaker nearby, other electric cables,...)

Once you are sure all of those are cleared, if you still have a problem you should bring the charger back for replacement, because it's very certainly faulty...

hi all..
this issue has been given so much trouble. i've like changed 3 times my samsung charging pad. every time it does the same thing on my samsung edge+.
it charges for like 10 seconds and desconnects. all new cables and chargers and still nothing. so i tryed one thing and plug the charging pad to my computer and no more troubles. for me it works just fine.
can't tell if there is a problem with the voltage on the electric chargers but on the pc it works fine.

Two weeks ago I bought into an S6 and the following charging pad from Best Buy. Samsung - Mini Qi Wireless Charging Pad - Black
Model: EP-PG900IBUSTA SKU: 7250019. I was noticing the same issue of charging to 100% and then the charging pad turns off. I contacted Sprint Support to see if they had any complaints and they also contacted my nearest local Sprint Store. No reports. I then asked for Samsung Customer Support phone number. They supplied 800-726-7864. I described the situation of charging to 100% and the phone sends a signal to the pad to turn off. The only way I was able to get it to resume charging was to lift the phone off the pad and replace it. After a brief offline research the rep came back and reported that it is working as designed and that this was due adhering to the Qi Wireless Charging Standard, I concluded the call by informing them that I would return the product and also requested to supply feedback to development, The feedback was that I thought this behavior of One-Time Charge was less than useful. That the lack of Phone control to turn the pad back on when the battery level fell below 100% or the pads ability to turn itself back on after some period of time was missing. I then contacted WPC(Wireless Power Consortium) a division of IEEE responsible for the Qi Standards. My issue was referred to a senior executive of that organization. He assured me that powering off the charging pad was not a part of the Qi Standards his organization puts out. I don't know whether Samsung can get this fixed by either pushing out a firmware change to their phones or whether an Android Change is necessary but I envision once word gets out about this behavior they are going to have a lot of this product sitting on their shelves. I will be seeking an alternative Charging Pad as documented by several of the other posters to this thread.

I was having the same problem with the wireless charging that everyone is describing, the pausing of the charge cycle. I bought a samsung charger, so after reading your post, I changed to a 2 amp output charger, and it works perfectly now. Thanks!

Hi all,
I have just received my wireless charger today and had the same issue of pausing. After changing the Daydream setting to on, it was still the same. Then I placed my charger on a bookshelf between the books away from any other electrical items or phones and it started to charge.

This worked for me too! Every time the phone screen went to sleep, the charger turned off, then started again with a beep. Now it stays on and charges with no beeps.

I am on my third Samsung wireless charger for my S6 the first one didn't work at all, the second two charge really really slowly and the phone beeps annoyingly avery 5 or so minutes no error message though..help it's driving me mad !:-\

For me, the free wireless Samsung charger works fine up to 100% charge, but then, by design, the charger will no longer charge the phone AT ALL unless I lift it up and place it back down. I used to have this charger by my bedside and would wake up with various battery levels based on what my phone was doing all night/morning. A few mornings ago, it was at 71%. I can see it charge quickly up to 100% at like midnight when I went to bed, then all morning it just drained at around 5% an hour, which is more than usual. Usually, it drains around 2%/hr at rest.

I have 7 wireless chargers and have been using them for 3 years on 4 different phones. This is the only charger I've seen that does this. It's kind of annoying. I use it at work since I'm picking up the phone and putting it down quite a bit, so I don't mind if it stops once it hits 100%. Still a dumb design in my opinion. I can see why Samsung gave a ton of these away for free, haha.

My Note 5 and S7 Edge do the same thing on the charger, fyi.

I like the $25 triple coil wireless chargers on amazon a lot more than Samsung's $50 POS.

Guys hi....my samsung edge was displaying the same message..." wireless charging paused" as im using a white fast charger i decided to change cables soo i acquired a different cable , black one from my wifi router and used it on the samsung charger , plugged it in on the wireless charger now it works perfectly. Try that.

I got a seriously strange issue :
Original charger (Fast 2A) and original pad (Samsung fast wireless charger).
When placing phone without case or thin case everything great and fast charging works perfect.

When placing a phone with a thick case , it paused after 10 sec's, BUT - if I replace the wall charger to 1Amp, then the phone charges great but not fast charging of course because it's a 1Amp wall charger connected to the pad.

This is very interesting and it pointed that decisions about charge or not charge (pause or not pause) is being taken by the software only.

Never ever charged my galaxy 6 on the wireless disc UNTIL I purchased this on ebay ( Long Micro USB Fast Data Charger Cable Lead for Samsung Galaxy S3 S4 S5 S6 Tab 4 ) works and charges lovely now with case still on.
