Wireless charging... What in the world happened to that?!

It's wonderful. I loved it on my Pre, and I love it now on my S3. It's a simple procedure (once I taught myself how to solder - easier than I thought!)

Here are pics. I just place it on the Touchstone and it recognizes it, tells me that I am charging inductively, and then goes to work. It might be my imagination, but it seems to work faster than using the USB plugin.

I did have to adapt my case (generic one that I got from Sprint), but I don't mind. It works at home, in my office, in my car - wherever I have a charger.

meh i dont hate americans but i hate the US the entity same as i hate the UK or "great britain" as an entity :)

global s3, UK. Ask me anything and ill reply even if its just an intelligent (or stupid) guess ;)

Multiple posting - deleting?

Okay - why did it post this multiple times? And how do I delete the extra posts?

I'm another ex-Pre guy who misses my Touchstones fiercely.

Somebody could pick up a good chunk of change doing the Touchstone mod for people. I'd pay ~$50 plus materials to get it done.

Why pay $50.00?
I'd think the answer would be pretty obvious: I'd rather pay $50 to someone who knows how to do it, and will do a good job, than try to learn how to do it myself, and possibly screw it up.

Why does anybody pay anybody to do anything?

Although I thought wireless charging was a cool feature back when I had a Palm Pre, I can't say I miss it all that much. It still required being tethered to a wire, so it wasn't really all that different. It was nice not to have to fumble around for the charging port, though.

That is a part of the beauty of it...and of course, Exhibition Mode(hacked webOS 2.1.0 onto my Pre Plus).

When I can charge my phone three to five feet from the charger with no cable, that's Eden I will really bee concerned about wireless charging. otherwise I'm fine using a cable and having the extra money in my pocket

When you can charge your device three to five feet away from the charger with no cable, I would suggest you might want to get out of the room. That is a lot of excess EM with which one is hanging out....

i kinda meant more about the environment than the cost of it but hey.. the US dont think twice about destroying the planet for the sake of a minor luxury do they? :p

and yeah i grew up directly under a main power pylon and i havent grown an extra head.... yet lol :)

So you are apparently in Glasgow and you think the US is destroying the planet? I gather you are not aware that US environmental laws are still among the strongest in the First World. You might want to compare the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Consumer Product Safety Act, Endangered Species Act, etc. etc., to what exists in other countries and then perhaps notice how long all of these laws have existed. Unfortunately, that would require you to think before spewing BS....

Have any other America hating statements? Do some investigation on the amount of pollution and waste many other countries who have NO regulation on factories and industry put out.

That's funkylogik's modus operandi. Don't take it personally. I have anti-establishment punk tendencies myself.

Besides, he's posting these comments on a board dedicated to an OS developed in the good ol' US of A ;)

Lol hey. I live in Canada... Not the US.. I recycle, and I shut lights and tv off when I'm not using them, and I use a reusable coffee cup.. I do my part... I think I can get away with using a 1 amp inductive charger without killing the planet! :D

I guess you are unaware that Ontario industries are a major source of acid rain in the northeastern US and (for that matter) eastern Canada. Having your house in order means more than turning off a light and being proud of it. It also means political action to address macro level environmental abuse that is as Canadian as anywhere else on the planet.

Look at the link I provided before coming up with another stupid reply. That's why you don't pay $50. I'm not saying don't pay someone, I'm saying look at the alternatives.

First, you make an awful lot of assumptions for someone tossing around the word "stupid." Emphasis on the "ass-."

Second, that case doesn't fit properly. It even says so in the listing.

Third, I use the Hyperion extended battery, which requires a different back cover.

Therefore, I need a modification done, and I would rather pay someone than try to do it myself.

Very doubtful that it works with an extended battery. Anybody know?

And they are resonance not inductance so
A) more efficient than people worried
B) more forgiving on positioning than the touchstone solution

Resonant inductive coupling or electrodynamic induction is the near field wireless transmission of electrical energy between two coils that are tuned to resonate at the same frequency.

Spatial freedom holds the potential to extend wireless power applications beyond sleeves and mats on a desktop to embedded charging surfaces in furniture, machines and vehicles.

Other wireless power designs in use require precise alignment and close physical contact between the charging surface and the device to be charged.

As the market and technology move toward designs that accommodate the way consumers want to use wireless power, these approaches will fit fewer use cases.

To bring wireless power into conformity with real-world conditions, spatial freedom allows for higher variability in coupling coefficient, device sizes, load conditions and separation between the power transmitter and receiver
