Wireless Storage on the LG G2

Yep same issue using my Macbook. You can move files from the phone to the Mac, but not the other way around. I dug around a bit and it appears this is a common issue with Macs and SMB shares.

I sure wish apple and non apple products would play nice with each other

I am having ZERO luck over here. Each time I try to type the "192.168.x.xx" ... it comes up in every browser that it cannot connect. Any suggestions?

I have the Verizon G2 and tried the ip address and it didn't work so I used the name instead and it worked perfectly.

On the offchance; for those having trouble with the wireless storage, make sure that Wireless Storage is turned ON on the G2. There should be a blue icon that kinda looks like your wifi signal icon but smaller and with a black square around it in your notification bar.. If that's not showing, then no amount of typing IP addresses or whatnot in your explorer will work. Turning Wireless Storage on is what allows incoming connections from your network.

For some of you that have it working, you probably know all this, since well, you got it working hehe, BUT it's not really mentioned in these posts that we have to specifically turn on wireless storage. It might help one or two people.

Your PC has to be wireless as well. When I tried using my "cabled" PC to use this it did not work. When I used my alternate "wireless" PC it worked the very first time.

The three PC's I tested this on last night before posting were wired. That said, possibly there is better success to be had with wireless PC's.

As an aside, I have been using an app called WiFi Transfer on my previous device, which carried over to this one when I changed, but it now looks like I don't need it.

Finally got it to work using the first method. I had tried everything posted and still could not see the LG G2. Had to delete and rebuild the network on my wired computer but now I can see the LG G2 on both my wireless and wired computers. Windows XP Pro with SP3. I am on a home network with a wired desktop, wireless desktop, and two wireless laptops, a bridge (for the Blue Ray player), and three smart phones. Computers connect to the wireless router via cable or wireless, then the router is cabled to the modem provided by the ISP.

Make sure that you have the network card drivers downloaded and stored in a file on the desktop of your PC in case you have to manually search for the drivers if they do not auto load when you restart. Do this BEFORE you start this process.
Open the firewall and disable it.
Got to the System Device Manager and uninstall the network card that is giving you problems. Warning: This will delete all networks associated with this card. You may have two network cards on your computer so make sure you choose the proper one. Most computer will only have one network card though.
Restart the computer, the drivers for the network card should automatically re-load. If not, point the driver search to the file on the desktop where you downloaded the network drivers.
Rebuild the network using the Network Connection Wizard.
Save the new network file at the end of re-building the network and install it on your other computers if necessary.
Restart the firewall.

If this does not work, then it is probably a third party firewall or anti virus program that is preventing your computer from seeing the LG G2. If this is the case, you will need to determine how to allow these programs to approve an exception to view the LG G2.

As above, open WINDOWS EXPLORER and type \\xxx.xxx.x.xxx where the x's are the IP Address provided on your LG G2 drop down menu (AT&T version) when you start the wireless storage feature on the phone. You will get the sign in page for the name and password.

In case others may be having the same trouble I was having getting the Wireless storage feature to work on my LG G2...I was trying it using Google Chrome Browser..NOT Windows Explorer. When typed in I.P address in Windows..work fine.

I want to thank you so very much!!! I could not get this to work through my browser, I never got the username/password prompt. So I decided to do the drive mapping instead. I so hadn't thought of that. Very helpful info.

That's odd isn't it? I was using Firefox, same thing. But sure enough...drag out MS, and it works like a charm. You'd think it would work with the other browsers, especially Chrome. But all's fair in love and smartphones, right? Lol. That was the case for the connection software for my old Photon. There were some things you could do in other browsers, but a lot of things you could only do in IE. Maybe it's a Motorola or an LG thing and not an android thing? I do have a similar app I used on my Photon that worked like a charm...It's a tiny web server that assigns an IP and a port number, then gives you access to the files on your phone through any web browser. And it's not just a few media folders...but I'm guessing you could have bricked it. Seeing as this connection appears quite slow, I've installed it and it again works perfectly with the G2. It's "WWiFi File Transfer" by Smarterdroid if anyone is interested. Very easy, straightforward.

you need to type smb://192.168.x.xx/ Make sure the 'smb://' is in the front and not something else

I did \\192.168.xx.xx\G2 in Windows Explorer and it worked. The login is \mystorage instead of just mystorage.

It shouldn't work with Internet Explorer either... we are trying to say use Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer. That is, if the application you are using is usually the one you use to go to google.com, you are using the wrong application (but see my edit below). I didn't mean to single you or anyone else out, Ruthie, just lots of people are using the 'wrong' browser and getting frustrated.

Don't use Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Dolphin, Opera, etc. -- these are web browsers. Do use Windows Explorer, File Explorer, My Computer, or This PC (Win 8.1).

Good luck all!

** Edit: I should add though, with file browsers you CAN go to the internet; and with internet browsers, you CAN go directories and other computers; but usually you don't use them that way. For LG Wireless Storage, best results are obtained using File/Windows Explorer.

when I run the diagnostic, I get this and I don't know how to let it allow the connection. Wireless storage is turn on of course.

Hey guys i have no issues connecting my phone to my pc via windows explorer however my transfer speed will never go over 1.65mb a second, my wifi adapter on my pc is a linksys ae1000 wireless n usb 3.0 adapter, my router is also a linksys, wireless n600.. from pc to pc wireless transfers i usually hit a good 90 mb a second transfer rate... not sure why the rate is so slow on my phone... any ideas?

Edit: I am just connecting via typing //g2 or //ipaddress in my explorer, did not try mapping a network drive yet, i will try that now and see if that makes a difference but im pretty network savvy and i really doubt that is the issue

Editedit:: Yep, Same deal Capture.PNG My pc is literally 3 feet from my router and 1 foot from my phone right now, i know this is not a signal issue as well, i have excellent signal on my phone to my router anywhere in the apartment

Thank you so much! I was tinkering around with the web address given on the phone ...couldn't figure it out till I read your very simple instructrions! worked like a charm! :)
Love this built-in app/feature on the G2...so much more convenient that using cloud or 3rd party apps to transfer files between phone and computer.
also I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging the cable anymore, it will at least preserve the life of the usb plug/charger. Thanks ! what a bright idea LG! :)

Love this G2! :)

best regards

This is a most excellent thread/Tip. I just got the G2 yesterday and so far, it is everything I expected and now, more! Thank you for this great tip and thank you LG for the oem.

I am getting the following error and the window you see is when I select "diagnostics". I'm on a windows7 64 bit laptop. I'm entering into windows explorer window. If I use the ping command from a command prompt I can ping the ip address given and if I shut the wifi off on the phone and ping, I get no ping so the phone is in the network but for some reason I'm not communicating. Any help would be appreciated.
