With all the apps, is Microsoft trying to turn Android into Windows Phone 10?

With Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and Cortana; it seems like you can basically turn an Android phone into a Windows one. All you need is a WP10 launcher and Nokia's HERE to complete the set.

These are just apps in the app store. Android is still Android. It sounds more like Microsoft has given up on their own platform (Windows Phone) and decided to make their apps available to Android to reach more users.

I'm actually using Outlook on my work phone. It's okay, Gmail is better, but I like changing email apps from time to time. The rest of the apps are pretty bad, but seems like they have a lot of potential to be cool.

I have Office Mobile on my Blackberry (Runtime is only 4.3 or something, Word and such need 4.4+) and it works okayish, though not much different than the inbuilt office suite.

I think Microsoft is trying to get anyone, anywhere to use their services. If they become irrelevant on mobile, they will quickly lose ground in enterprise due to the cross platform requirements of many business users.

Personally, I don't think so. In Fact, Android will always be far away from Windows Phone. They just want to convert you or make you use their products/services. Personally, I do prefer OneNote, OneDrive, Etc. Because they're featured filled as Google's aren't. Although, If they dis make a Windows Phone style launcher that isn't 8Launcher, That'd be awesome as I do miss Tiles.. (I owned a Windows Phone)

I think Microsoft is trying to recover users. They have a lot of Windows users but those users aren't in the Windows mobile world, so Microsoft needs them using - for instance - Word everywhere (not just in Windows, but in Android or iOS too) and not third party apps (like Polaris, Documents to go, and a large etc., even Google Docs).

I had Office installed on my Note 4, but removed it. If I didn't have to sign in all the time just to use it, I would have kept it.

Here's my theory: Microsoft discovered that Office exclusivity didn't bring users to Windows Phone like they thought it would. Although lots of people worldwide use Office, it wasn't a big enough draw to switch people from iOS and Android to WP. Both Apple and Google developed alternatives that, while they might not be as full featured, are plenty good enough for the vast majority of smartphone users. Microsoft was losing Office users to iWorks/Docs rather than gaining WP users.

In a nutshell, Microsoft put Office on Android and iOS because they had to.
