Word of warning when buying full retail from Verizon

I don't believe you can do this online yet. You'll probably have to call. VZW offers a payment plan (with a finance charge) on full retail phones. This is separate from Edge. Tell them you do NOT want Edge.

You have to go into a vz corp store. Tell them you want the no contract price, and the device payment plan.

How did that work out for you? You can pm the details that would great. As soon j can get to a VZW store this is my plan.
I went to a Verizon Corporate Store this morning. Bought my phone full retail, no problem. Set it up on the device payment plan, and 30 minutes later walked out with my activated phone.

Needs to be done in store not online
Hello, I want to do the payment plan and keep my current unlimited data. Can you explain to me like I'm 5 on how you did this? I tried to see if I could do this online and it is adding a data plan.

It was fine.. Painless actually. They tried to get me to wait until Aug 25 for the Edge but I told them I only want the Device payment plan. I also traded in my iPhone 5 when I did it. But just tell them you want to pay retail, set it up on the device payment plan. The only thing I didn't like is I wanted to out the whole trade in credit from my iPhone on the htc but I couldn't. It would only take the amount for the first installment.

So you went from paying full retail to signing a 2 year agreement? As a former VZW employee, you do know anytime you buy more than 3 accessories you automatically get that discount, even if you're not buying a phone...

FYI there is no company policy that says you can or cannot buy a phone at full retail no matter when it comes out. If any rep or manager refuses call *611 and tell them.

Are you saying that buying 3 accessories automstically registers you for a 2 year plan? Or is it that buying 3 accs gives you a huuge discount? Because I'm still trying to understand what happened there and how I can do it too lol

It's been about 6 months but IIRC 3 accessories gives you 20% off, 5+ gives you 30%. This is regardless of if you get a phone or not.

Hmm, it seems he got approximately 45% off the total amount unless the discount is not applied to the total

I'm curious, who are you replying to?

Who went from full retail to a 2-Year contract? Because BM96 got the phone off contact at almost 50% off if you were referring to him. He never signed a contract.

The manager was like " I usually don't let people do bundles on launch day".

I think it was my muscles to be honest. :p

Shoot I'm about to go in and ask if this can be done. I want to buy at full retail because my upgrade was used for GS4. I hope they can give me this deal. I refuse to drop 600 bucks on the phone.

I got escorted out of VZW store today by there security guard. Tried buying the HTC One on the payment plan deal. Said no problem also mentioned I don't want it activated till I get home. Well his remark is we activate all phones unless it's a holiday. Total bs then he brought the phone out and goes oh wait we have to switch your plan. And I go no whole point of doing the payment plan is no contract. He swore that was only way they could sell me the phone. I then threatened to rip his head of and crap down his neck. That is when I was escorted out of the store. Called VZW & explained they said to try another store kinda hard in a semi. So I'll keep looking.

Because that was going to have them help you?

Word of advice, keep your cool, and ask for the manager next time. If that still doesn't work, call corporate.

You attract more bees with honey... remember that.

If you look at his picture of his receipt you'll see he was charged $199.99 for the phone and a $30 upgrade fee. The upgrade fee is only charged when extending a contract and taking the subsidized price, which coincidentally happens to be the price he was charged. Then he got 3 accessories and they gave him the accessory bundle. I would strongly suggest he go online or call *611 and make sure they didn't play him.

I know a local store manager and he is about a decent "salesman" as I've ever met.
He doesn't hide anything and always tries to find a way to accomplish what I am trying to do (lowest price without losing unlimited data).
He told me the other day that just about every new option (program) involves a new 2 year contract and the loss of unlimited.
The payment plan being one; ideally it is designed to convince people that the short term savings and new phone will entice people off of their current unlimited plan(s).
The stores do not have the ability to change the programs.
There appears to be only 2 ways to avoid a new contract on a specific line; buy at full retail or upgrade a different line on your plan and transfer the "upgraded phone" to your line.

Just buy full retail.

I know it sucks in a way guys but.. It's either that or lose unlimited. If you use data that phone price upfront will be less than what you'll pay without unlimited. These payment plans will get the money out of you so one way or another your dropping full price pretty much.

15$ a GB for Verizon right? That can add up fast.

I'll give you the correct answer, Reps don't make any money off full retail and it actually hurts there numbers. So he simply didn't want to do it. Next time, go in and if he gives you a hard time ask for a manager.

Reps don't get incentives for pulling people of unlimited. The rep was just lazy.

Not that your statement is wrong I just want to clarify that Indirect stores generally pay the reps but Corp locations do not. I get paid on all non Apple full retail very well I would actually much rather sell one full retail :)

That is exactly how Edge works you are signing a 2 year payment AGREEMENT and you will lose grandfathered features. There is NO way to keep it unless you add a new line and move the Edge device. Trust me I am in the same boat and I work for the company. Go look at the edge FAQ and you can call in and confirm from 10 different reps but we know you can generally get some incorrect information. So if you think myself and everyone who has the correct information is wrong try doing it yourself through online website if you are eligible for upgrade. Why do you think you need to be eligible for upgrade to sign this new agreement? Simply because it is an agreement while it is not a 2 year SERVICE contract you do lose unlimited data which is confirmed on multiple fronts.

Now I am sorry if you meant switching your plan as is going into Shared Everything but everything you said seem to be more so you wanted to protect your unlimited data. So the edge program works with all existing Phone plans you do NOT need to be Shared Everything but you will not keep unlimited data if you try to go directly onto the edge program from a phone that has the unlimited data feature.

Lastly almost all indirect and Corp stores need to activate the phone outside the holiday season because it is the way the store gets credit for the services they did for you. Generally not a requirement on full retail phones because there is no agreement but I can ensure you most stores still will enforce activation sadly :(

He is lying. I bought my iPhone 5 off contract on release day almost a year ago. Was this a corporate Verizon store or one of those off brand retailers that sell Verizon?

For those who have yet to go buy their HTC One and want to buy it at full retail cost, DO NOT go to Verizon. I went to Verizon this morning with the full intention not to get a contract upgrade and when I told the rep that he stated that Verizon will not let anyone buy the phone without a contract upgrade. He went on saying that he doesn't know when Verizon will let people buy the phone off contract, but he feels as though it could be awhile since the iPhone is still "not allowed" to be sold without a contract either. That being said, go to Best Buy or another phone store and get it and save yourself the hassle of trying to buy directly from Verizon. Plus IMO Best Buy has a better replacement policy too, $10 a month for unlimited replacements no matter what happens compared to Verizon's $10 plan with only two replacements and limited coverage.

Just because you could do it doesn't mean he is lying. It depends on the rep you talk to..

When i was with Sprint I had to buy my HTC One via Amazon since they wouldn't allow me to at a corporate store. They straight up told me no on the phone to coming and getting it full price.

After I left and chilled I called VZW to verify the device payment plan is still in effect, it is. It cost more a month like $40-50 plus a $2 fee but it keeps the unlimited plan. The data really doesn't bother me. But with my set up I'm paying about $350 a month. If I switched to a new plan my bill goes up to $425 or more.
