Bump on this thread. Anyone figured out how to do a manual activation (change the MDN number) or bypass the activation screen yet?

IIRC, Jay told me that he actually got a call while the SIM was in his phone and he was able to hit the back or home button and finally get past teh activation screen

Pretty simple

On a slightly unrelated note, I unlocked my DI2 shortly after purchase. I popped in my GeoSIM global roaming card while here in the USA. And my phone just went crazy. I couldn't connect to any network, CDMA or GSM. I decided to try it again after the software update. And sure enough, no problems. I was able to switch between AT&T and Verizon with no problems (AT&T signal is much stronger than VZW).

Hope this is helpful information.

Just curious if you could point me in the right direction because I'd like to unlock my inc2 as well, for exactly the same usage you have. A link or pm would be extremely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There's no trick to it. Call VZW Global Services at 908 559 4899. If you meet the quals, paid full price for the phone or post paid in good standing for 60 days, then they will generate an unlock code for you. It's that easy.

Wow that's really surprising, I thought it would involve a bit more trickery but sounds like phoning them will work. So if they provide me w unlock ability i could just install an existing ATT sim card I have and it would work?

I don't see why not. My Global SIM roams T-Mobile and AT&T in the US. I assume a standard AT&T SIM will work. I don't have an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card to test it. But even if it does, remember that you will not get 3G data. 3G is still locked.

And remember that Verizon will only unlock the phone if you have service and meet the criteria. So if you have other plans for the phone, unlock it BEFORE you remove it from your calling plan.

Has anyone tried the Wi-Fi Hotspot feature on an unlocked Dinc2 when NOT using a VZW SIM but rather using a local UK SIM? My friend is in the UK now and says it is not working using a local SIM.

The data connection on an unlocked phone is a tricky proposition. The unlocked phone will accept the new SIM for phone calls and text messages. 3G on the other hand is still carrier locked. On my BlackBerry, I was able to manually tune the API settings for data. I don't know if you can do this on the Droid. So the HotSpot feature may not work (or it may need a root).

Any Android saavy users have an answer?

Thanks, he did input the local settings for the carrier, but hotspot not working. I suspect VZW has that locked down somehow...

To clarify, 3G is not locked, the radios do not exist in the device to connect to those frequencies

And yes, inputting new APN settings is required to connect to data, and can be done once the dvice is unlocked and has a new SIM in it

As for the hotspot, doubt the stock one will work on another carrier, because I am pretty sure it is a Verizon branded app

This is my first post, Long time lurker though. There is so much help on the forums here. LOVE IT!

Once you set the APN settings will you have to reset them if you switch between networks and how do I get them? I switch between AT&T and Verizon a lot, AT&T tends to have a better signal where we are and I just haven't used it on the AT&T internet yet. Been using WIFI.

If you are wondering I unlocked mine and it works great on AT&T for calls and text here in the US.

I was wondering about AT&T service. Thanks. You should be able to get the API settings from the carrier or they may be posted on the forum somewhere if you do a thread search.

I found these on another forum. They may or may not be accurate.

AT&T

Gateway IP: 10.250.250.250

Port: 9201

APN: proxy

I'm not moreso worried about the 3g data but moreso if the phone will still function properly as far as data goes even though it is locked.
