What is this in regard to?

In a heartbeat. This camera is far superior to both the Gnex and Nexus 4, which, in my amateur opinion are inexcusably bad.

I feel that it's roughly equal to the S4 and a close second to the iPhone, which is plenty good.

Obviously doesn't touch my Nex-5n.

It's impressive for sure. The S4 is capable of better low light pics but It needs tweaking and it's not consistent. For whipping it out and snapping the One is more consistent.

I think you've got the two phones reversed.

I will probably never again buy another HTC product. I'm kind of disappointed with the One.

8 Ultrapixel camera would be the way to go, need zoe? HTC should increase the camera chipset bandthwidth or we just select lower mp ;)

In my experience the camera in One has some disadvantages. It needs a lot of tweaking. There is the potential there, but you got to know what to do.
Even then, landscape photos with good light are a bit worse than the iPhone or the Galaxy.
However for the love of God I cannot believe that people who own both phones would say that the S4 is better in low light. The One trashes S4 all over the place. It is there on top with the Lumias.
The photos I've taken with just Auto are better than the "night modes" of other mobile phones.
It's definitely the king of low light:

Also the macros are pretty good and the Zoe thing which I thought was gimmicky is really good. My main problem is the noise I get in landscape photos under relatively good conditions.

If the purple tint issue is an ultrapixel signature than HTC should stop making phones with it,plain and simple!
I was much more happy with my One X 8mp,at least no issues

Absolutely. It took me about 3 months of messing around with and researching the HTC's camera.. When I first got it I thought it took pretty good photos, but after I understood Zoe and HDR, and sweep panorama I was absolutely blown away. I love it. I have never in my life been more obsessed with a device of any kind. I personally feel that in a world that "everything is bigger and better tomorrow", that the HTC ONE M7 was/is ahead of it's time, and with the upcoming upgrade it will only be more awesome.

Hope this helps a bit.

I would, if they could increase the pixel count to 8MP... That way, we get better definition plus the advantage of ultra pixels (larger pixels that is....).
best of both worlds.

the photos from the htc one look good enough to me. in fact, better than what would make me happy from a phone; and i appreciate that i can take better pictures indoors.
