Would you buy the 5x if the 6p didn't exist?

No.. To small and not high end like the note 5 or iph 6s+.

I'd stay with my nexus 6. My main device is the note 5 but I always have a nexus to swap sim cards with.

I keep going back and forth. The 5x is plenty good, but I'm on the fence about whether I want the larger screen. I'm not impressed by the 4k display spec (unless you're planning to use it with VR, the extra pixels are wasted on even young human eyes, to say nothing of my 54 year old eyes). The extra gig of RAM is a non-issue (2 gigs is quite enough). But do I want the larger screen and make the "pocket" trade-off (the larger phone will not fit comfortably into a Levis hip pocket) or go with the smaller screen, which is still quite a bit larger than the 4.7 inch screen on my Moto X. And then there is the issue of battery life: will the larger battery more than compensate for the wasted watts flowing to the 6P's screen? Unknown.

I now have both phones on preorder (carbon 32s) and will have to climb down the fence on one side or the other, but I'm still torn. To answer your question, however, yes. Were there no 6P, I would certainly order the 5X.
