Would you buy the HTC 10 again?

I have till Tuesday the 14th to decide whether I want to change the htc10 for probably the Galaxy S7. I'm not like an audio nerd, but I listen to alot of music last night I attached the best earphones I own and was blown away by the sound. My Galaxy S5 died a month before my contract with Sprint was up. My phone before that it was a Galaxy Nexus and before that I had a Palm Pre. It took alot of time messing with Sprint on the phone and in the store before I could find an acceptable deal to upgrade to a new phone. I love the audio and like the speed and battery life and lack of bloatware. I am very disappointed with the screen quality and the camera coming from the Galaxy S5. I've had the phone only a week. Now today I've had no mobile data and I can't figure out whether it's because of the phone or because of the network. The other thing is that I live in Florida and work in the heat and humidity and rain so I think the waterproof quality of the S7 may be something I need. I'm really torn actually but if the lack of mobile data is because of the phone that'll probably cinch it.
* update : the data issue was Sprint's mess up on the account they signed me up for. I resolved it. I'm sticking with the 10 I don't want to give up the audio! I just hope it will survive my rough work environment...

I had my HTC 10 for 2 months now and have been enjoying the phone a lot. In a earlier thread, people complained about not being able to see the screen with polarized sunglasses on (either in portrait position or in landscape position, depending on the shades). Today, I noticed something, I was wearing a pair of polarized sunglasses and was able to see the screen. That's in both portrait and landscape positions. The brand of sunglasses I have are Maui Jim (2 pairs) and before I couldn't see the screen in portrait position. I presumed the screen has a break-in period, because it seen to get better with time. Not to say I had an issue with the screen. So, it was a revelation to be able to see the screen, with my sunglasses on. One pair has the neutral grey lens and the other pair has Maui rose lens and I had no problems viewing the the screen with either pair. I was simpli amazed.

I like my 10 a lot, but I don't know if I would buy it again. No complaints about the software or hardware. My battery life has been quite good, and the camera is generally a bit better than that of my Lumia Icon (no small task). In fact, this is probably the best android/iOS handset for my purposes, however, I think the 10 is missing that special "something" that really sets it apart. What that could be, I can't exactly put my finger on. I would have preferred buying unlocked and not being tied to VZW for updates (which are already 2-3 months behind), but HTC didn't feel like giving us users that option. Now we must wait and see if the two companies can get it together.

Probably not. Not because there is anything wrong with the phone, but because the next stuff is on the horizon.

But that's always been the Achilles heel of tech, something new on the horizon.

After the HTC M9 didn't quite live up to my hopes & desires, I decided to hang onto my M8 for another year. Now the 10 may or may not be what I'm looking for, and I find myself slowing deciding to see what the next Nexus will bring. But after that, the 2017 flagships will be coming out, so why not wait another 6 months.

If flagship devices dropped in price by $100 - $150 , I'd be more apt to upgrade sooner.

Also, it'd be more cost effective to upgrade if manufacturers went to an 18 month cycle for new handsets instead of a 12 cycle.

Its really a vicious cycle, you can pull the "Ill wait for the next flagship then decided" for years as theres always something new coming sooner rather than later. Big reason why I skipped the M9 since I knew the 10 would have to be a change and it ended up being what I wanted in the end.

The HTC 10 is by far my favorite phone yet. Sadly I had to switch devices because the antennas aren't string enough and because I work in a city that has very poor signal as it is I had a very poor signal. And yes I tried a new device. Besides that the HTC 10 for me was the best phone I have owned.

The 10 is super fast. Size is perfect for me. Screen and build was excellent. Software was near stock and awesome. It really is a great choice.

I don't know maybe at to bed devices because my HTC 10 has at least 50% better signal than my M9 hat. I would get one to two bars at my work and now I get at least 4 to 5 bars.

I just exchanged my 10 for an S7 edge and boy was that a big mistake!!! I should have known better. Fingers touch the screen edges and then won't recognize what you're trying to press. Maybe a case may help that but I think I'll be on the phone tomorrow trying to get the 10 back

No it's where I work. I near the water on the Canadian border. It's hard to get a strong signal where I am. I have to have a phone with strong antennas.

That may honestly be the metal build...which it seems like a lot of this generation's phones are using, except maybe the Motos. And Sammy, but let's not go there in an HTC forum. ;)

I had the M8 as well and thought long and hard before pre-ordering the 10. But, all in all, it was a great decision, even though I miss the M8's great speakers.

Are there any heat issues with the 10? I tried the 9 and sent out back because it got scary hot when pulling a lot of data down wifi. Or mobile data. Or just working hard. The M8 never did that. In fact I never had a phone get so warm that it concerned me. Until the M9 anyway. The 10 is tempting me :)

Wasn't the M9 known for heat issues in part because of the... troubled 2015 Snapdragon processors? Mine will get warm after, say, an hour of Waze, but day-to-day I'm not seeing any problems.

Yup, that was the issue. Just using Google for navigation got mine hot enough I had to put it down. Keeping it on charge couldn't keep up with the battery drain. It just turned into a space heater. I loved the M8. I'm hoping for another honeymoon with the 10. HTC is the bomb when it comes to their designs. They kick Apple to the curb. I was really disappointed with the issues on the M9.

Mine gets very warm sometimes but it doesn't seem to cause issues necessarily. Maybe it is hurting my battery a bit because I don't get great battery life. But performance is still fine.

Also, I have bad reception too, especially compared to my previous phones.

And I still do not like the new speaker setup, headphones be damned.

I needed to upgrade my M8 and I looked at both the 10 and the S7 Edge. I still loved the 10's UI and looks, but I have been disappointed by the HTC cameras on both the M7 and M8. The shots I took looked fine on the camera screen, but when they were on a monitor in large size, they were always a little fuzzy. I snapped a few shots with both the 10 and S7 edge in the store, and the focus was faster and sharper on the S7 Edge. The screen a little more vivid, and the edge things was kinda cool. So I went in that direction. And it killed me to leave HTC. I was pretty nervous about it. But after a week, I am extremely impressed by the Edge. The 2 things that jumped out at me immediately (and this is vs. the M8, I don't have the 10).

  • The call quality was dramatically better than M8. Night and day, crystal clear, both in the hand set and through blue tooth. I never expected this in a million years.
The edge thing is actually pretty useful. I have customized it to open my most frequent apps and weather etc. It's really convenient and I'm surprised at how much I use it.
I have HTC guilt - I love their build quality, nice UI and speakers, and unlike others in this thread, I have had really good customer support experiences with them. But I don't regret switching. The S7 edge is really a great phone. I realize it's not a HTC 10 to S7 edge comparison I make, but I hope this is helpful.

I loathe TouchWiz, carrier bloat, and Samsung bloat, so its HTC, Google, or Apple for me. I really, really like the 10 so far.

Seriously, Samsung might be more considerable if they offered an unlocked phone. It's pure BS that they don't do this.

And I would buy it in a boat!
And I would buy it with a goat.
And I will buy it in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
It is so good, so good you see!

So I will buy it in a box.
And I will buy it with a fox.
And I will buy it in a house.
And I will buy it with a mouse.
And I will buy it here and there.
Say! I will buy it ANYWHERE!

I really love my HTC.
Buy one yourself. You'll see, you'll see!
