Would you buy the HTC 10 again?

I needed to upgrade my M8 and I looked at both the 10 and the S7 Edge. I still loved the 10's UI and looks, but I have been disappointed by the HTC cameras on both the M7 and M8. The shots I took looked fine on the camera screen, but when they were on a monitor in large size, they were always a little fuzzy. I snapped a few shots with both the 10 and S7 edge in the store, and the focus was faster and sharper on the S7 Edge. The screen a little more vivid, and the edge things was kinda cool. So I went in that direction. And it killed me to leave HTC. I was pretty nervous about it. But after a week, I am extremely impressed by the Edge. The 2 things that jumped out at me immediately (and this is vs. the M8, I don't have the 10).

  • The call quality was dramatically better than M8. Night and day, crystal clear, both in the hand set and through blue tooth. I never expected this in a million years.
The edge thing is actually pretty useful. I have customized it to open my most frequent apps and weather etc. It's really convenient and I'm surprised at how much I use it.
I have HTC guilt - I love their build quality, nice UI and speakers, and unlike others in this thread, I have had really good customer support experiences with them. But I don't regret switching. The S7 edge is really a great phone. I realize it's not a HTC 10 to S7 edge comparison I make, but I hope this is helpful.

No need to feel guilty. This is a phone, not a life partner. If Edge fits your needs and works well for you, enjoy it!

I'm coming from a M8 and the call quality is definitely better than my experience with that. Just for that I'd buy it again.

No it's where I work. I near the water on the Canadian border. It's hard to get a strong signal where I am. I have to have a phone with strong antennas.

That's what I'm saying the HTC 10 has strong antennas because the M9 in the same area as I go to 100% of the time which is work and home. I have much stronger signal on the 10 that I do did the M9. I am 9 would get one and two bars at work but my 10 gets 3 to 4 bars. At home I will get between 3 to 4 bars at home and I am consoling getting at least 4 - full bars at home. So for me the 10 is 50% stronger than the 9 was. So for me the 10 does have stronger antennas. If your 10 is not working like mine is maybe it could be defective.

You're assuming the bars are programmed the same. I wouldn't.

I've found the reception on the 10 to be a step down from my Nexus 6. But i'd expect any plastic cased phone to have an easier time with radio signals than one encased in signal - blocking metal.

I never said you didn't have good signal. I do not. And yes different manufacturers use different antennas. For me it is worse than other devices I have had. My moto x has much better strength. Now overall the 10 is much better than the moto x. It's not defective just different.

I would definitely buy the HTC 10 again. I'm coming from a Moto X Pure Edition (2015) that had some serious issues with lag (I must've just had a bad device as I've never had a problem with Moto before), otherwise I was probably going to wait for the Nexus in the fall as I typically like vanilla Android. I just couldn't wait that long with the Moto X Pure issues and I didnt want shell out another $400-500 so soon on another phone. So I went in, tongue in cheek and bought another Verizon branded phone for the first time in a while. The HTC 10 does have the usual carrier bloat (unless you buy unlocked), but beyond that, it's probably better than any other Android in regards to bloatware that they are selling right now from what I've seen. It's been the best device I've ever owned. Great screen, better camera than anything else I've owned, audio is amazing through headphones, and the battery is the best I've had compared to any of my previous Android phones, including the Droid Maxx. One thing I will say is that I miss Moto Assist and Moto Display. The HTC 10 does lack those extra features but it has solid hardware and snappy software and fits my needs very well.

I'm very spoiled by the 10's headphone performance, so if I lost my phone the only other option would be the LG V10. The speaker on that one is pretty bad and it's processor is inferior, so I'd probably just get another HTC 10. I've been very happy with the phone.

Yeah. I'll buy next HTC brand. The audio quality got me hook. Beside that I hope they increase the screen size and put back some HTC apps( keyboard, gallery). Touch pal is a joke.

Probably, I really like the phone.

Battery life
Better coating for carbon grey
Two things that I would love to see improved.

What update are you on. This thing gets me through 16 hours and about two and a half hours of SOT with 50-60 percent left.

From me to you by the Power Cosmic
1.30

It can get me through the day when i don't use it much, but so expected a lot more from it especially the way HTC was going on about battery.

I seem to be averaging around 3.5 hrs SOT, it's not terrible, however when I see users on the Galaxy S7 for example raving about 5 hours+ regularly, leaves me a little disappointed.

At the moment it's not too bad, since I'm at home a lot and close to a charger but when I'm out more I don't wanna have to be worrying about whether it's gonna last me till i get home on medium to heavy usage.

Standbys good mostly but i find it drains a bit too quickly for my liking when the screens on.

I wouldn't say i do nothing too strenuous, sometimes SoundCloud streaming but mostly social media and web browsing.

I wouldn't trust bars. Each manufacter displays bars differently which means seeing more bars on your HTC 10 doesn't mean you are getting a better signal than other phones. Always check the -dBm strength for each phone when comparing -- that is the real signal strength and not however many bars the manufacturer wants to show for that number. This also applies to the same manufacturer as they can change their algorithm from phone to phone.

I would. HTC have great build quality. However, im waiting for the Axon 7 smartphone, looks like it has taken everything great about the HTC M8 and supercharged it. 6gb ram, Google daydream support, best in class audio and all that for $200 cheaper than Htc10... interesting times!

I just bought it again. I had it and i couldnt stand that i paid an extra 100 dollars so i returned it.i got the nexus 6p but i didnt like how big it was so i found a brand new htc 10 for 100 dollar cheaper on eBay so i bought it . Now i am back to the 10 and i love it!!😃

I just upgraded from my Moto X 2014. (broke it)

The sense to is very close to android, no branding on front of phone. I feel it's a close relative of my long lost moto X lol.

I just wish verizon, would push a update or two.

I believe you're not able to buy a Sprint-compatible version directly from HTC though, right? Otherwise, I might've considered that myself.

Turns out the unlocked version, purchased directly from HTC, will work on all the major carriers. Just pop in the appropriate Sim and you're golden.

So the carbon gray unlocked model would work on Verizon if you already have an active sim? I thought this wasn't the case.

Probably not. I moved from the M7 to the M10, and I like everything about the M10 except one thing: the signal receptivity is very weak. There are many, many places where I could make a phone call, access mobile data, or get WIFI or GPS with the M7 that I cannot with the M10. Perhaps the antenna strength is significantly weaker. I am going to send my M10 to HTC this weekend, and am not happy about having to do so, nor am I optimistic that signal strength will improve. But I see no alternative.
