I don't need a custom rom to change my wallpaper or install custom made apps. That's the point.
Again the point is you can customize Android way more than the iPhone WITHOUT rooting. That's a fact and there is nothing hypocritical about mentioning it.
The point is you rooted and/or installed a custom rom. Why? Keep it as is. There is obviously a reason you did. So that is being hypocritical if you're doing the same thing iPhone users do, but for different reasons.
Apples and oranges. Blackberry and Nokia both outsell the iPhone, so by your logic Apple is playing catchup to them. High sales figures while an indication of success, doesn't necessarily mean it is better. That is a subjective matter.
I was stating that they weren't playing catchup to Android.
I should also mention satisfaction rating and the awards that JD has given Apple the past three years... oh wow, that's actually as long as the iPhone has been out for. So yeah, if you add up on the factors, I would say everyone else is playing catchup. When have you heard "This may be an Android Killer". Never!
Sales doesn't equate to better or catchup, but once again, customer experience / satisfaction ratings does!
Look at the industry average and where is Nokia & BlackBerry?

Although I like Android OS more, when will they catch up with:
- Better copy & paste... or do I need a mod for that?
[uh I copy and paste just fine on Android. In fact under certain circumstances it's quicker than on the iPhone - just hit shift on the keyboard and drag a finger. No dialogue box to deal with when copying.
Please tell me how do copy text from the Gmail app? Or from my Yahoo account? Or from my MobileMe account that are all on my Nexus one?
- Applications... Only app that I love using better on Android is Tapatalk.
[And that's your opinion. IMO the Google apps like Nav and skymap are superior to anything on the iphone. And the Android equivalents like barcode scanner, shazam, where etc all work perfectly fine. I miss nothing from my previous iphone 3g.]
I should have said 3rd party apps! Ones not made by Google.
- Applications (again)... 9,300 apps in March. How many were actually apps? Oh, skins! Yay (sarcasm)
[Oh like the app store isn't full of complete crap. Give me a break!]
Oh yes, there may be, but they are at least APPS! Good or bad is very subjective... you should know that, you mentioned that above
- Mail... sloppy IMO. I won't even get into that.
[Mail on the iphone sucks period. Touchdown for Android is unmatched. And gmail on the iphone is a joke. Attachment handling on the iphone is a joke as well. ]
Like I stated above... I can't even copy & paste within the mail app. Why is there two mail apps? One for "gmail" and one for "others"! No push for Yahoo? I understand that is Google's competition, but if I have one (which I do), I don't get push? In fact, Google took a poop on all other mail that isn't Gmail IMO.
I really hope I don't hear a "but I don't use Yahoo" response as there are a lot, and I mean a lot of people that still use Yahoo. Most are because they've had the account for so long.
- Camera (stock)...?
[The droid can take decent pics with a little patience but I agree, it can use some improvement.]
w00t!
- Fragmentation... Why don't all capable devices gs et the same updates at the same time the rest do?
[FUD. Not a real problem but a manufactured one by people who've run out of material.]
How is that manufactured or is it because there isn't a response to it? My sister just bought an Android device that was released (maybe a month ago) and she doesn't have 2.1 for it. She questioned why my phone had the speech to text capabilities for everything and hers didn't. Her friend who has a G1, isn't even getting the 2.1 update (I could be wrong, but I don't keep up). This is understandable (G1), but how does a current or recently released device not have the latest firmware?
You must not be browsing the Apple forums then. Go do a search for slowdown or slow or crash and see how many hits you get.
Hmmm... I had about 90 apps on my iPhone and never experienced slow downs. I had a little bit over 40 on my Nexus One and had to delete them a few days ago because my "memory" was too low and had to delete some. Yes, I am a member of everyone of the "top" iPhone forums and slowdowns isn't a popular topic bro. Not sure which ones you're going through to see that. Also, the point was that it was a lot more of those issues with Android (even with the snapdragon processor that I have).
I hardly if ever get slowdowns on my droid and I do not use an app killer. The N1 has even more memory on board, if you're having issues it's probably user error. Anyway, why do you own an N1 again?
"I hardly if ever get slowdowns", but maybe it's because of the rom you're using

Like I said, I've never had a slow down on my 3Gs. I get them on my Pre, BlackBerry devices and Nexus!
User error... awesome response. I think we both know user error isn't the case with me, but nice try. It was cute actually.
I beta test for a lot of apps and use all different platforms as I have a couple BlackBerry devices, 3Gs, Pre & Nexus. User error isn't an option. I'm sure my experience with phones is a little bit above average to be user error.
