Xoom is is NICE!, But $800 plus aint NICE!

I always tell people you get what you pay for! I just bought mine yesterday for $600 on a 2yr plan....i like it so far.....this thing is a beast!

Not necessarily disagreeing with your overall point, but I don't the NI adam is best comparison. First, it's $600 for the 3G/Qi shipped. Second, it's taking at least a month between when someone orders the NI Adam and it arrives at your door and the process isn't exactly clear. Third, you can't even order the Adam presently. Fourth, because it's such a new company- how can you trust that you'll get honeycomb on the device. Also, the g-tablet isn't the best comparison either. It doesn't have 3g and like it or not that is at least a $130 premium. Also the g-tablet off the shelf is borderline unusable without rooting and installing a custom. Neither of these can be mass market devices in their present form.

Everyone has their own personal idea of how much they are willing to spend to be an early adopter on a device like this. I was fortunate enough to get the 25% coupon on the xoom and bought it in a heartbeat. I would never have bought it off contract otherwise, but I had considered buying it on contract before the coupon dropped.

You got some good poitns

1- you are correct, the price is 600 (550 + delivery), but I did a search and the lcd, 3g version is 425 + 50 delivery= $475

2- You are also correct, it does take a long time to get there but it is coming from china directly (i know not a + but figure Ill add that) however the process is clear (they fixed their mistakes).

3- Correct

4- Correct, I am sure xda will.

Just to make it clear, I was not by any stretch trying to say the adam is just as good as the xoom, no but simply saying that if a start up company like notion ink can deliver (yes, not perfectly, and it has its problems) a product with most of the same features, surely MOTO can deliver the product polished and at a reasonable price.

About the Gtab, it goes for about $380 plus your $130 premium = $510
You have to understand that these devices were out before Honeycomb so yes the gtab is unusable out of the box, I bet if honeycomb was out when these tabs were being built it would be a diff story.

I think everyone can agree that MOTO products are head and shoulders above these other tabs when it comes to quality, but even if you account for that in price, in my opinion is still overpriced.

Having said all this, I slept on the idea of buying one and I have decided that I will get one, I wished I would of been lucky like you and got on that 25% deal.

leaving soon to best buy, and yes I will feel like I am been ripped off but that's the price you pay to have in NOW.

FYI I will be using some BB gift cards I got because of extended warranty reimbursements, so I will be getting it free but in my eyes I am still losing $200

I'm interested in replacing my iPad for the xoom, but the price and havig to be on a 2 year just doesnt sound right to me. I'm already on a two year with Sprint.

Jonagpa has an excellent point. The main complaint against Apple is that their products are overpriced but yet there's no mention of that when noting that the Xoom is $70 more than the comparable iPad.

I think if Motorola had come out with different tiers of Xooms, the sticker shock would have been easier to swallow.

Although Apple is overpriced to most of us....I don't know if in general that statement is completely accurate.

I have heard myself, and a few others, complain about their desktops and laptops being overpriced. But I can't recall a single person I know saying that the iPhone, iPod's, or iPad's are overpriced. And I know quite a few people with all those devices. If anything, when I question the price the people I know defend it by telling me they have the best device so its worth it.

That is why when comparing the Xoom to an iPad it is laughable that people think the Xoom is overpriced. Even if you want to make the argument to compare it to the iPad2, fine....the specs don't seem to be much different. Rumors say the A5 processor, same screen resolution as the original iPad, single camera, and no major OS/UI changes. So the specs we know either meet or fall short of the Xoom. The only advantage I see in any iPad is the amount of apps....but we all know this will be short lived. As the market gets flooded with honeycomb apps, so will the App market --- Devs go where the money and people are.

Whether the device is overpriced I suppose is more of a personal question. If it was cheaper, would I love it even more --- of course. But the fact is that you are paying for having the best tablet with the most capabilities currently available. Prices will obviously go down as competitors release their tablets.

It's not different in any market. Look at TV's, blu-ray players, etc. 3D TV's have probably dropped 50% in price in the last 12 months because of the options now available. I expect the same for tablets.

If the price is a sticking point for you...just wait it out and you will get a steal a little bit down the road! :)

As a launch date iPad owner, I can remember how anti-Apple people on various forums were constantly saying how the iPad was overpriced. The atmosphere may be different now that a few Android tablets have come out but when the iPad first came out all you heard was people ridiculing iPad owners for paying hundreds of dollars for a big ipod touch.... lol.

The price of the Xoom is definitely a personal opinion. I feel it's overpriced for what it does (and what it doesn't). I think if they had several different models as Apple did it would ease the shock.

I agree that people should wait for the price to come down. As far as for me, I already own an almost 10 inch tablet and a 7 inch tablet. I'm more concerned about using Honeycomb versus another heavy tablet.

My best advice for people who think the xoom is too expensive is to not buy one.

You think your so smart, don't you? this is a discussion forum. People don't just come here complaining, they are looking to discuss about a topic.

I'm just going to go ahead and disagree with you on that one. Only because of the high amount of opinions stated as fact. Which clearly cannot be the case. Even if the opinion is firmly supported by logic. It is still an opinion

I paid the 800.00, and I'm very content with my purchase. I don't want to sound smug, but I agree with the axiom "you get what you pay for". Is it too much? I'm not sure, that's my honest opinion. But I know I'm not regretting my decision. That's the truth. And I'm fully self-aware to the point that I'm not making my self like this product to justify the cost. Each day, I become more impressed with the Xoom.

The Xoom is expensive. I can afford it , don't regret getting it and, like it very much but, I can understand why someone wouldn't want to get it.

I think they are charging too much, but that didn't stop me from getting one. I think the cost will hurt sales with the general public. Your "don't buy" comment is ignorant of many reasons people might think it is too expensive. "Too expensive for what?" should be your response, then go from there.

Last Friday I went into Best Buy with the intention of playing with the Xoom, not buying the Xoom. I was very hesitant to pay for a feature I did not need and would not use (3g radio). Half an hour later, I was walking out of Best Buy with an unactivated Xoom. I have not regretted the decision for a second, even though I paid for hardware I will not use.

I do have a soft spot for the latest and greatest gadgets though...

Sorry if I offended you, I meant that as a joke. Sure I wish the xoom was cheaper. I'm with you. Only time will tell if it actually is overpriced. If enough people are buying them, then it really isn't. If they aren't selling well, the price will drop.

Yeah xoom lost me with their greedy price. This gimmick about sending it back for 4g is an epic fail. Now I'm going to buy two ipads for myself and my wife. Some people area going to get fired over this bad marketing blunder.

Common sense should have told Motorola to release the Wifi only version first and them the 3G/4G one later when 4G is already on the device and people won't need to send it back.

Sure, but Verizon had their grubby mitts and wanted exclusivity for a bit. After all, the more people that buy the WiFi version means there's less that by the 3G version.

People keep complaining about the price, but are forgetting that XOOM is a premium tablet. Mot wanted to establish themselves as the best tablet on the market. IMHO, they accomplished that. Now they need to get the media to understand that.

For the people who continue to complain about price, I have a question:
Do you also go into a Cadillac dealer to shout that their prices are too high and a Toyota Camry sells for half the price down the street?

The XOOM is the most premium tablet on the market today, providing a higher performance core and more peripherals than any other offering, bar none. And if you are going after the premium market, you better darn well have at least 3G, not just WiFi.

Mot has made a lot of marketing mistakes, but price and the decision to go with 3G first... IMHO... were good marketing decisions.
