Not necessarily disagreeing with your overall point, but I don't the NI adam is best comparison. First, it's $600 for the 3G/Qi shipped. Second, it's taking at least a month between when someone orders the NI Adam and it arrives at your door and the process isn't exactly clear. Third, you can't even order the Adam presently. Fourth, because it's such a new company- how can you trust that you'll get honeycomb on the device. Also, the g-tablet isn't the best comparison either. It doesn't have 3g and like it or not that is at least a $130 premium. Also the g-tablet off the shelf is borderline unusable without rooting and installing a custom. Neither of these can be mass market devices in their present form.
Everyone has their own personal idea of how much they are willing to spend to be an early adopter on a device like this. I was fortunate enough to get the 25% coupon on the xoom and bought it in a heartbeat. I would never have bought it off contract otherwise, but I had considered buying it on contract before the coupon dropped.
Jonagpa has an excellent point. The main complaint against Apple is that their products are overpriced but yet there's no mention of that when noting that the Xoom is $70 more than the comparable iPad.
I think if Motorola had come out with different tiers of Xooms, the sticker shock would have been easier to swallow.

Although Apple is overpriced to most of us....I don't know if in general that statement is completely accurate.
I have heard myself, and a few others, complain about their desktops and laptops being overpriced. But I can't recall a single person I know saying that the iPhone, iPod's, or iPad's are overpriced. And I know quite a few people with all those devices. If anything, when I question the price the people I know defend it by telling me they have the best device so its worth it.
That is why when comparing the Xoom to an iPad it is laughable that people think the Xoom is overpriced. Even if you want to make the argument to compare it to the iPad2, fine....the specs don't seem to be much different. Rumors say the A5 processor, same screen resolution as the original iPad, single camera, and no major OS/UI changes. So the specs we know either meet or fall short of the Xoom. The only advantage I see in any iPad is the amount of apps....but we all know this will be short lived. As the market gets flooded with honeycomb apps, so will the App market --- Devs go where the money and people are.
Whether the device is overpriced I suppose is more of a personal question. If it was cheaper, would I love it even more --- of course. But the fact is that you are paying for having the best tablet with the most capabilities currently available. Prices will obviously go down as competitors release their tablets.
It's not different in any market. Look at TV's, blu-ray players, etc. 3D TV's have probably dropped 50% in price in the last 12 months because of the options now available. I expect the same for tablets.
If the price is a sticking point for you...just wait it out and you will get a steal a little bit down the road!![]()
My best advice for people who think the xoom is too expensive is to not buy one.
You think your so smart, don't you? this is a discussion forum. People don't just come here complaining, they are looking to discuss about a topic.

Yeah xoom lost me with their greedy price. This gimmick about sending it back for 4g is an epic fail. Now I'm going to buy two ipads for myself and my wife. Some people area going to get fired over this bad marketing blunder.
