Xoom possible defect

Let me first to say that i love my xoom tablet, and im starting this thread to help other xoom owners before warranty run out...

I noticed today when cleaning my xoom, the xoom front glass panel is coming detached.. right on top of the camera location. I went into the Verizon store this afternoon to seek a replacement, they offered to ship a replacement overnight. I decided to check out the display unit and noticed the glass panel coming undone in the same area... so just wanted to check if anyone else has seen this problem with their xoom. Perhaps its an early run defect..

I don't see it on mine. Glad they got you a new one coming. Hope its not a bigger issue.

its not easy to see, you have to slant it and get close to where the glass meets the plastic... I sure hope it was a just mines and the display.. did you get yours at launch.

So far mine isn't doing it either thankfully. I did get mine at launch.

I got mine first thing on launch day, mine looks fine. Can you post a picture of what it looks like possibly?

this is the best angle i could get with my droidx.. look at the middle and compare it with yours.

Sorry that is happening to yours. But I am glad it is not happening to mine... I am glad to hear verizon is helping you out with it. Oh and the Xoom has a 1 year parts and manufacturing defects return policy. I would be more worried about getting a referb say this happens in 2 or 3 months from now...

i read somewhere says that the reason the glass and touch panel is detached was for easy replacement if the glass do get cracked. maybe in your case it's too detached. but glad you got it taken care of.

i hate that i read this...of course i go look at mine and i have the same issue...although mine doesn't seem to be quite as severe...and like most of you, i picked mine up 1st day as well...i'm not all that worried however...if it continues to get worse then i'll take it back to best buy, or simply wait until the 4g units are available and get a replacement then...seriously though, thanks for pointing it out...hopefully we're in the minority

ugh. yep. I didn't notice it before but after reading this I examined mine closely and sure enough, the top of the screen is protruding very very slightly above the casing while the bottom of the screen is actually set below the casing by about the same amount. At this point, its so slight that I'm not going to do anything but keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse.

To give you an idea of how slight it is on mine, I put two sheets of paper against it and the protrusion was enough to stop just the bottom sheet from sliding over it while the top went right over without snaging

Just another observation - I really think its been like that since I got it. I had noticed before whenever I was wiping the screen with a lint free cloth, that I could feel a slight variation across the top of the screen with my fingertips, it was very sublte but it was there. I just wiped it now and felt the same thing and noticed it corresponds exactly with where the screen is slightly protruded.

interesting, im going to post a pic on the new unit Verizon is sending me. Maybe your right, it came that way.. but how do we explain others not having this problem?

Mine has that, it's so slight that I would not have noticed it if it weren't for this thread. If it does seem to protrude any further, I will take mine back, if not I will not worry about it.

I don't think it's a problem that devolps.
I think it's shipped that way.

It's a veryyyy small asthetic issue, which doesn't effect functionability at all...

Mine is raised up very slightly also, it came like that straight from moto. I was going to return it but seeing others have this cosmetic issue I'm not to worried about it...

The glass on mine is uniformly nested below the bezel on all four sides. it sucks that anyone has it any other way ... for sure it would bother me if mine showed that problem!

Bad news... they sent me an empty box for me to send it in to Motorola, they refused to exchange it since it was 2 days outside the 15 day period. Bummer! Oh well a buddy of mines has the same issue with his and he fixed it by putting a hair dryer on high heat next to the metal casing allowing the glue to melt.. he placed a couple of clothes pins to apply pressure and left it over night. If that doesn't work for me its going back to moto.
