Yo Sprint/HTC, you need to hype up EVO now

So I've been thinking about advertising of cell phones. We all seem to expect Sprint to dish out the ads, but is that the norm? For example, are all the annoying iPhone ads we see on TV put out by at&t or Apple? They sure look like Apple ads to me. How about the Droid? Was that Verizon or Motorola? Yet another example would be the HD2 on T-Mobile. The only ads I've seen sure look like they're put out by HTC.

Keep in mind I'm only talking TV ads here.

I guess my point is, if the TV ad responsibility is going to fall into HTC's lap how much are they going to actually invest in it?

well, the difference is that at&t makes absolutely $0 from selling the iphone they only make money off of their plans, apple is a control freak and said that they want every penny from the phone AND the apps and didnt want to share revenue with AT&T. that is why Verizon turned them down in the first place because 1) Verizon has an appstore with Qualcomm (Get It Now) and 2) Verizon is just as bad as apple with "open platform" they both want things their way.

Verizon advertises the Droid because they get revenue from it, plain and simple. T-mobile advertises the HTC HD2.

Verizon advertised and still is advertising the hell out of the Droid. Just saw 4 ads within the past hr. I hope Sprint does the same for their own sake.

Hopefully the ad blitz starts after Sprint's EVO party tonight. This could be the best phone in the world for all we know, but without proper advertising it doesn't mean a thing. I hope Sprint doesn't screw this up.

OK Sprint, it's time for an all out death battle ad blitz with ATT and Verizon. Hit'm where it hurts.

So has anyone seen Sprint Evo ads? Verizon started a month before Droid release. Sprint needs to promote pre-orders so they can estimate demand.

Umm...I'm pretty sure no carrier makes money from the phones. This is why they subsidize the phones on a 2 yr contract, and why most won't let you buy a new phone at 2 yr contract price. The phone companies have to recoup the costs of subsidizing your phone, as well as making a profit on top.

Evo Advertising?

Has anyone seen any commercials on TV for the EVO? I would think that if Sprint wanted to create the type of hype it needed to compete with the new iphone that is coming out they would be advertising everywhere....

I know of a family friend that know about the Evo and they are not tech savvy. I am wondering how they found out about it. If I am not mistaken Sprint has been advertising the phone through newsletters and it's on their page. I also walked into bestbuy and saw a poster for it. So they are advertising it.

but look at how much $$$ VZW spends on advertising the droid/incredible...

and look at all the iphone commercials ATT has. TMO even advertizes the MT3g quite a bit(or used to).

only thing sprint advertises is their plan pricing, at least I dont see any EVO commercials.

Luckily for AT&T Apple does all of the iPhone commercials. As for the Evo, when it's released I'm sure it will get tossed into those Sprint commercials similar to the Palm Pre. And not the creepy Palm commercials...

Sprint and/or HTC have not released commercials yet. I hope they do so soon. Sprint is, I'm sure you've noticed, been putting out web ds for the EVO.

I love all the ATT and Verizon commercials. they always talk about each other, T-mobile, never even say the word sprint. because they know sprint has the best prices and best devices (minus the goofy new $10 fee)

I don't think that's it. Ever notice that Sprint commercials talk about Verizon and AT&T as well? For right or wrong, they're number 1 and a close number 2, so they have all the heat on them. T-Mobile and Sprint don't need to fight with each other, they need to go after the big guys to get new customers.
