God, I can't stop myself from wanting to flash roms. Tomorrow, when I get my hands on a PC, I'm flashing superclean 2.9.2. And I'm staying there. That was the best rom I could work with. Best on battery life too. Stock sucks. Lol. Well, I'm rooted, de-binged, and de-bloated, but that's not enough. I need froyo.
but I need to ask you guys something, what would be the best rom for longer battery life?

I'm using SC 2.9.2 with the kernal update and I've noticed my battery last way longer. Been wanting to try other ROMs but my phone is running so good I'd hate to mess something up.

Once you go to 2.9.2, wait at least a couple of days before you notice good battery life or make your decision on it. It seems like with some of the battery reporting problems people are complaining about, give them a few days and they all work out. I have been on 2.9.2 for a while and I think it is the best froyo so far with battery life. The first few days it seemed like I was at 50% almost immediately. NOw that I have been on it, I can still be at like 60% at the end of the day and I use my phone for work almost all day with BT turned on.

If there is one suggestion I would make... Just starting out trying new things. Stay away from anything that is labeled 'alpha' or 'beta' builds. These are ROMs that are under developement and typically have some bugs, glitches, hiccups, or other issues that can (in some cases) - cripple your phone..

If you do choose to flash one of these ROMS please read ALL the posts in the developer thread prior to flashing.

Yeah, I remember the amazing battery life last time I had 2.9.1. I had it for like, 2 weeks, then I tried flashing a voodoo kernel on it and screwed it up. So I flashed it back to stock and vowed never to flash again. Look at me now.

I was the same way. I can honestly say I have flashed so many roms and themes that I am perfectly content on staying with D101. It does everything I need except flash and I still get amazing battery life (better than the stock Moto DX and HTC Dinc).
I did enjoy the Fascinating Sense 2.5 SC. I always love sense and it is almost identical to HTC sense UI.

Why do you need a pc to flash roms? I download directly to the phone and flash via recovery. Flashing roms is fun. It's better when there are several devs punching out roms weekly like in the HTC hero days. You had some crazy stuff every week to try out.

I have been running some tests on battery life on 2.9.2nv and have noticed a few things that I think is worth sharing...

Your battery likes consistency...if you flash something new every day you may never really experience the full potential of the battery life.

I understand completely the drive to flash and try new stuff, trust me, but unfortunately flashing is inversely proportional to your battery life. Flashing three or four things a day, every day, never gives your battery a chance to figure out a consistent usage. That's why my wife's phone (unrooted Eclair) was at 90 something percent last night after 14hrs. She doesn't do anything to it, and the battery is long conditioned to her set up.

If battery life is something you'd like to see improve, Pick a ROM, pick a kernel, pick a theme, follow the bstats clearing method over in gunnermikes thread, and then TRY to not change many things in regards to your ROM, kernel, and theme for a week or so and see how your battery life goes.

I will tell you, I haven't flashed a new ROM, Kernel, or theme, for 10 days, and I'm running 2.9.2nv, with 0 widgets, and as little nonsense running in the background as possible. I consistently have an average loss around 4%hr with normal to medium use, with almost all the features disabled (sync, location, auto-rotate, etc) when not needed, screen brightness down all the way, and around 1%hr with the phone idle (absolutely no use, i.e. at night).

So with that said, you may not experience anything better than that. 1-4.5%HOUR loss over the course of your day.

It's kinda like people who drive fast through stop and go traffic, then complain about gas mileage..it's a give and take, flashing vs battery life.

Excellent assesment Lttl,

As a flasher myself (that sounded wierd), I am on day four of no theme/rom/kernel flashing, although I have flashed new cwm and flashed couple new boot logos (but that don't count), and I do indeed see an improvement.
I be using imnuts 50uv kernel and didn't notice much in the first couple days.
Did the bstats thing right after the kernel flash.
Getting better as time goes on. The undervolt has something to do with it for sure.

Undervolt is defiantly a major factor. We had a lull there in kernel options for a while (due to no source) that made things a little tricky. I'm very happy we're finally getting back the extra kernel features I've been missing (undervolt, bln, voodoo).
