Your way to update to MD4

Somehow I didn't realize just how many posts I was going to have to respond to. My respect for Skunk has gone up even more! ;)

No one's saying you're dumb. Sometimes little things can make the difference, and it can be hard to try to diagnose everything from a distance.

I'm not sure if you posted this or not. I don't see it, but this thread has gotten long enough I might be missing it: What is your device status under Settings / About Device / Status? It'll be all the way down at the bottom of the page, and should be either Normal or Modified.

I believe you did follow the instructions. No one's trying to say you did something wrong, we're just trying to figure out what went wrong. This file and procedure has worked fine for many others, so I think it must be some idiosyncrasy with your phone. I'm afraid I have no more ideas at the moment, however. I'll keep thinking about it, though, and let you know if I come up with any other ideas.

Right now I think the best thing to do would be to just wait until the OTA comes out. It shouldn't be more than 2 or 3 weeks at worst.

I just wanted to say thank you very much for providing this great thread and files to get this update. I was just reading this morning that sprint would be pushing out the new update today, and I would be having to deal with that in a day or two. But thanks to meyer, it's already taken care of! The update and both flashes went fine, and my phone is still a beast thank you!!

**NOTE about TalkBack** if you have a constant accessibility notification like I did. For the love of god do not turn that on, to turn it off, and try and get rid of it! Holy hell that was the most frustrating 10 minutes trying to get into the settings to turn OFF accessibility mode. It makes it UNaccessible.

But many many mahalo's to all you guys for creating these threads, and giving us easy access to the files, much appreciated!!

what exactly is stock recovery? would it be just as if i had waited for the ota? i really wouldnt want to lose anything on the phone.

After the first time, Talkback is a bit easier to turn off after turning it on. Here's how to navigate it once it's turned on:

Talkback is hard to turn off, because it affects how the system responds to touches. A single tap just reads what it is you're tapping on. To actually tap a button, you need to wait until the phone shuts up, then single tap it to set the focus, and then double tap the button or item you want to tap. In order to scroll a screen, you need to use two fingers.

So after you turn it on, wait for it to stop talking (which takes less time after the first time), then tap the on | off toggle once to set the focus, wait for it to shut up, then double tap it to turn it off.

That will bring up the confirm dialog. Again, wait for the phone to shut up, then tap the OK button once. Wait a second, then double tap it. Talkback will now be off.

(Yes, I've done this a lot in the last few days. :) )

Stock recovery is what comes on the phone. If you haven't rooted, you have stock recovery. Applying the update that's linked in Post #1 will do the same thing as the OTA. In fact, it IS the same file as the OTA; the only difference is how it gets to your phone.

As zipped. The installer takes what it needs out of the zip.

Hey, Meyer....I just started to read this post, saw the problem brooklyn is having. If they were to use ODIN to flash say MA6 on, not do anything to the phone and let it accept the OTA for MB1, and then apply the downloaded update, do you think that may bypass whatever brainfreeze their device is having?

I actually did download the zip file and it says fail to verify what does that mean!?

I have no idea, to be honest. It might be worth a try if Brooklyn is up for it. Or he could just wait a couple of weeks and see what happens with the actual OTA for MD4.

How I do that? Any instructions?

It took forever to download but once it did, the install went flawlessly. Thanks to all who made this happen!!

I had trouble downloading from my phone. I used the post #2 method and downloaded the odexed zip and the modem zip onto my computer. Then I moved the files onto my external memory and followed the steps. The 800 meg file downloaded at a snail's pace but like I said....it flashed flawlessly.
