Your way to update to MD4

I had trouble downloading from my phone. I used the post #2 method and downloaded the odexed zip and the modem zip onto my computer. Then I moved the files onto my external memory and followed the steps. The 800 meg file downloaded at a snail's pace but like I said....it flashed flawlessly.

This thread lists some things. One other thing I've noticed is the Pop-Up Browser has been added.

[INFO][SPH-L710/MC3/MD4]Discussion, findings and more... - xda-developers

No popup browser on my odexed rooted md4 install. There's something called "popup receiver" though.

An official changelog for md4 can be viewed on sprint. It has a few more changes than the mc3 leak....

Edit: Open link in browser. It does not work right in tapatalk.

How I do that? Any instructions?

READ VERY CAREFULLY!!!!

OK...you will need to download a different stock ROM, and install that. You can find them at Samsung-Updates . com, those are the bare stock ROMs. For some reason they take a while do download, I mean like close to an hour. (I have 30 MB/s and it still took me an hour to download some of mine). Or you can search for RWIlco Android Repositories. He had ROMs that are all stock, downloadable, and you can choose to be rooted or not. I would suggest Samsung Updates. WIlco's files offer more choices and are more up to date, but Samsung Updates is easier. Select your device, scroll close to the bottom (they category by model number first, but also give the device name and carrier) and click on it. It should bring up a small list of ROMs, download LJ7 the topmost file. When downloaded open up the file and copy the kies file to your desktop (Makes finding it easier)
Now, you are going to need to download a program called ODIN. Google it, you should find it easily. Next I would search for samsung drivers and download those. Install both downloads.
Before continuing, back up any files that are on your phone, try to prepare transferring of any games that you have. The reason I am saying this is part of the install process is to wipe the phone clean, so there will be fewer problems in the future. So all applications are going to be gone when this process is over.
Open up ODIN by right clicking and choose Open as Administrator.
Now, fully charge the phone. When done, power down, and go into download mode. (volume down, home and power buttons) I find it best to hold home and volume before hitting power. You will see a warning screen giving choices of volume up or down. Push volume up.
You will see the Android logo and downloading. Connect to your PC via your data cable. Now, your PC and phone will be connecting this may take a few minutes. On the ODIN screen, when everything is done, you should see a small box that says COM and a number (the number is irrelevant, it just means ODIN recognized your device). Check the box next to PDA and click the box. It will ask you to choose a file. Navigate to your desktop, and select the kies file you copied there click OK. The file you selected now should be in the PDA box. Click Start. Now this process may take upwards of 10 minutes, so be patient. When it's done, the Box above your COM:# should be green and say PASS, and auto reboot.

After this you are a couple ROMs behind. Let your phone talk to Sprint, and accept the next updates that are coming (MA6 and then MB1,) Then you can try to apply your update again.

Please read this over a few times. Take notes if needed. I know it's a lot of info, but this should work.

I'm running a custom ROM, but I thought the pop-up browser was part of Premium Suite. I guess I was mistaken.

It was supposed to be part of the premium suite. So were the customizable toggles. We didn't get either though. :(

They left us out. We will have to hope for 4.2

I'm a little new with all this. I hope I'm not asking a stupid question and if i am i apologize ahead of time lol! I'm not rooted and I've not done anything to my S3. With the steps in 1st post do I download the link right from my S3 or do I need to connect my phone to my laptop and download it from my laptop to my phone? I appreciate any guidance with this!

Download it to your computer. Then connect your S3 to you computer using your USB cord. Then transfer the update zip from your computer to your S3's external sd card. From there boot into recovery mode holding down your power button, home button and up volume. Once there arrow down to update from sd card, choice external, select the zip file, push your power button to update and sit back. Once down boom MD4

If you're new to this and there's nothing in premium suite that you just have to have right now (multi-window and what not), then just wait for your phone to receive the update ota and update the normal way. Connecting to Wi-Fi before accepting the update is advisable. If you search around, you will find a couple methods to force your phone to receive the update. This is the simplest method to avoid anything going wrong imo.

Yes I am rooted. Just like golfdriver said, read and reread the instructions and even print them out to have on hand if you plan on rooting. it isn't as difficult as you may think. The hardest part is taking the first step...

Can you please explain in more detail how it didn't work? Did you lose the app icon when you attempted to update, error message, etc?

This worked perfectly for me... thanks so much!

My ONLY issue was that I forgot to follow the very first instruction and actually turn the phone off before the three button thing... I kept inadvertently taking screenshots! So, ya know, user error. ;)

Waiting patiently for the second post to get updated with the complete file. I don't want to have to flash the kernel after
