Your way to Update...

The old "Google Service Framework" trick worked again. Had to do it few times but finally received the update. Surprisingly hotmail in the stock email application works how it should now.

"All applications-google services framework-clear data, then back to system update-update samsung software."

Ouch. I've never flashed a ROM before. Plus I'm afraid I'll lose all my data. There has to be an easier way.

Sent from my SGS3!

It is by far the easiest thing to do on the phone. If you don't wipe data factory reset the data will remain.
If you haven't already done a backup it is the only chance you have at saving it. the other ways will surely wipe your data.

Using method 2 worked great except I cannot make any calls. Receive, yes. Make, nope. Send and receive texts just fine. But when I try to make a call, I get a busy tone. I've rebooted, updated both PRL and profile.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't sweat it yet. Could be an issue with sprint. Had that happen earlier today and now it's working.

Who are you talking to.

To the guy whose phone showed the yellow triangle. My tablet did this and I never even tried to root it. It was just a bad file from something I looked at......who knows. But I was able to send it it because the Acer A100 doesn't have an unlocked bootloader so I couldn't fix it myself. Stupid Acer..... I won't buy another acer product.

sent from my UNROOTED but still totally frikkin awesomely customized Galaxy S3

No. your way won't work as the sd card in question is formatted in exfat file system.

Skunk, I know we're wearing you out, but I have a question. I reformatted my SD card in my phone today before doing the upgrade. Is it now formatted in the exfat file system or fat32? I plugged it into my reader and uploaded the upgrade, followed your instruction (#2) and it went as smooth as silk. I'm confused. Help! I promise not to bother you again...until the next time. :-D

LOL.... You are so wrong... The yellow triangle was because he was pressing the down volume instead of the up volume. That is download mode instead of what he was trying to get to which is recovery. Please don't needlessly scare people by just guessing stuff.

when I try to run the file from the external sd card it says "failed to mount sd card (argument invalid)
any tips?
thanks!

Are you going to root your phone? I know for sure custom recovery does not read exfat. was told and in my experiance neither does stock. I will definitley look into this during the weekend and get back to you.

Ok. Well , I've backedup using Titanium Backup and now I am uploading the backup to Google Drive. Upon completion, I will proceed to post #3. Thanks Skunk.

Oh no, you're definitely right about stock not reading exfat... I ended up instead of moving off 40 gigs of music and reformatting, dumb me, i grabbed an old 4gb sdcard formatted it fat32 and doing the upgrade on that now... will re-insert my 64gb card later... it's always the simple answers.... :-)

Used post #2, worked perfect. Thanks so much.

Just used an old sd card that was formatted in fat32 for the upgrade, then put the 64gb one back in after (it's exfat), no problems.

I plugged my phone in to my Windows 8 computer and used it as media device and it saw my phone memory and sd card just fine. The sd card showed up under file system as "generic hiracial" or something like that...so I am guessing that's not fat32? General idea though, if the recovery doesn't read it, it's not fat 32 at which point I could save my stuff off the sd card to my computer, format the card with the computer to fat 32, and then move stuff over and try again, right?

Aaawwww, I guess if they didn't wanna be scared they should just wait for the update. Don't tell me what to do or say.

I never have an issue with this stuff, but the zip update won't copy over to my sd card via Android File Transfer after numerous attempts. Should I redownload the file?

Yes... Not familiar with windows 8 but that would be the solution.

This program runs in windows and does a fine job of formatting the card to fat32.
