Your way to Update...

I downloaded the link from post #2 and when i hold the power, vol down, home button. I get a yellow triangle telling me how a custom operating can harm my phone and i should press vol down to reboot or vol up to install. I've done a lot of installs using .zip files and have never seen this message before.

The volume is supposed to be up....

I have bricked every time I try to go back to stock rom..I recover using odin, but it seems not to matter what i use Tar or zip nothing gets me back to stock..

OK. Everybody who is not rooted (I'm not rooted, so I can't speak to that issue), calm down. Here's an option that I used, and it worked just fine.

Download the link onto your computer. Unmount your SD card and put it in a reader and download the file. Replace the card in the phone and follow the method that Skunkape60 posted in #2 post. Works like a charm.

Since my upgrade, everything is fine. No problems or error messages. Plus, it now resides on my SD card where I can get to it, if needed. I haven't experienced any abnormal heat while charging, etc., and I really like the new available options in Settings.

Ok do you have to have a external micro sd card or can you use the internal because I lost my card

Definitely. Your phone cannot open the file. It must be downloaded from the SD card.

By the way, how's your 4G LTE reception? I'm in the west Lakeview area and have strong signal. I voted at the Wicker Park Library and the signal there and all over is strong also.

Is there anyway to hook up my phone to my computer and do it that way. I don't have a sd card and I live in lake View and I get no 4G only in certain areas I get it but recently I have been getting it in more and more spots I think they're switching them on slowly then announcing it then turning the rest on since it's a huge city.

No you must have an sd card. Period.

U have a corrupted file. Which usually means u have bricked your device. My tablet did this, but it wasn't rooted so I still had my warranty. If u can get into bootloader u may be able to fix it. This is why I don't root......

Who are you talking to.

are you referring to this--------- Official JellyBean LJ7 Return to stock/Update to JellyBean tar------If so this just boot loops soft brick.

Skunk,

I am rooted
I am on LI3
I only rooted to remove font and shutter sounds in the system files

I tried to update using the update zip....did not work, received an error message (tried several times).

What should I do now?

Your easiest upgrade path would be in post 4.

No it doesn't it takes about ten minutes to boot the 1st time.
Also, If it doesn't boot, go into stock recovery and factory reset. it will work.
I am downloading it again right now and will do it again.
Do not download full image tars with your phone...

Are you removing the tar file from the zip file first? You must extract the tar file from the zip file and flash with Odin not with recovery.

I absolutely had no problem with this method. Did it 3 times. not once did i have an issue.
